Hey guys,

Now I'm satisfied with my laser I need to buy a good flashlight. Sometimes I travel to places where I have no eletricity, so I'm looking for a good and cheap flashlight.
After doing some research, I am between the two cheapest models of "high powered LED". Of course, they aren't even close to the manufacturer rated brightness, but for the price they are good...
Please, help me choose
P7
DealExtreme: $20.68 UltraFire WF-501B SSC-P7-CSXO 3-Mode 900-Lumen Memory LED Flashlight with Strap (1*18650/1*17670)
vs
MC-E
DealExtreme: $20.00 UltraFire WF-501B MC-E (BIN M) 5-Mode 800-Lumen LED Flashlight (1*18650)

Thank you, guys !

I have several UltraFire WF-501B (not the 502B) and just love the "feel" they have. They all have different drop-ins.

The last one I got is the UltraFire WF-502B SSC-P7-CSXO 3-Mode 900-Lumen Memory LED Flashlight with Clip SKU3 6357 for $22.00 which has the same drop-in as the one you are looking at. If you are looking for one that has good throw with some flood, this is the one, but because of this it does how a cold spot (shadow) on the middle at a long distance.

Hope this helps... :D

What are you looking for in these lamps?

Do not get the 502b or 501b if you want anywhere near the potential brightness, the P60 drop-in has terrible heatsinking and won't be able to keep up the high current. You will be much happier with this light: DealExtreme: $21.47 UniqueFire L2 Cree XPG-R5 320-Lumen LED Flashlight - Black (2*16340/1*18650), DealExtreme: $21.46 UniqueFire L2 Cree XPG-R5 320-Lumen LED Flashlight - Silver (2*16340/1*18650)

5-mode: DealExtreme: $21.98 UniqueFire L2 Cree XPG-R5 5-Mode 320-Lumen LED Flashlight - Black (1*18650), DealExtreme: $22.32 UniqueFire L2 Cree XPG-R5 5-Mode 320-Lumen LED Flashlight - Silver (1*18650)

Roughly 3x the runtime, almost the exact same brightness, and less heat. LEDs have come a long way since the P7, and if you don't have a large enough host to control it anyway, the results can't be good. You could power 3 R5s for the same amount of time as a P7, with twice the brightness.

These will be mid-range lights, if you want more throw, they wouldn't be the best choice out there. If you're really set on a P7 (which you shouldn't be; that's some serious light that isn't needed unless you're walking a wide path at night), get the Aurora AK-P7-5 2-mode. I've been searching for the "perfect" single battery P7 for a while and I believe I've found it. :D I did a review recently of it: http://laserpointerforums.com/f66/review-aurora-ak-p7-5-led-light-52498.html

If you're looking for throw, as randomlugia mentioned, I suggest the UltraFire Recoil DealExtreme: $23.32 Ultrafire WF-008 Recoil Thrower Cree Q5-WC 230-Lumen LED Flashlight (1*18650/2*CR123A) it has all positive reviews, including a some good distance shots. It is 3-mode though, not 1 as is listed. Kenom has this light: DealExtreme: $21.14 SKYRAY S-R5 Cree XPE-R4 5-Mode 320-Lumen Memory LED Flashlight (1*18650/2*16340) and loves it, but hates the modes. There's a UniqueFire version that's single mode with an R4 emitter, which would probably be plenty of light. Here's the single mode version: DealExtreme: $22.35 UniqueFire R5 Cree XPG-1AO-R4 5-Mode 330-Lumen LED Flashlight (1*18650/2*16340)

Either the one I mentioned first or the last two prototype mentioned are good for flood.

They are both pieces of crap.

And an LED that powerful does not belong in a flashlight that small. It will heat up and burn out, and it wont even produce near the amount of the claimed lumens. Leave it for the XPG and XRE's for the small P60 UltraFire lights.

And I assume this is a piece of crap too? Same LED, probably less heatsinking than the Seraph clone. I realize the Seraph is a P60, but you know that DX lists the LED lumens, not the torch lumens. And reading the many reviews on DX, I have yet to see one that has "burned out".

^ Good choice, I would have picked that one too. I'd like to see a good picture review.
