Mind sharing the source of those drivers? I've got a few of these phatlight LED's here and have been searching for a driver for ages!

They Dont sell them single or anywhere.:(

They come in flashlights only. I begged my supplier to sell me one without the light but they would not.

After placing a large large flashlight order with them i found it in my package as a gift.

You can find them in this light:

TrustFire Cree Z5 XM-LT6 5-Mode 1050-Lumen Memory White LED Convex Lens Flashlight Set (2x18650) - Free Shipping - DealExtreme

If I had an Extra one i would just give it to you.

Are you just trying to drive 1 LED.?

If so there are many other option i can help you with my friend.

Like this one:

Which i have on the way.

Let me know

Damn, that's a shame because they look like nice drivers!

Yes, I'm only trying to run 1. Maybe from a 12V SLA battery pack or something.

Yea the driver that I'm using really would be over kill for 1 led. It also needs Modification.

Ive got a few of these coming here.

I think they will work just as good. If they do I send you one no cost.

Ive got some other drivers in the 10A range coming to to play with as well.:)

So I will hook you up with something.

I know exactly how you feel. It took me a very long time to find a driver for this setup.

Direct driving although is OK "Not Recommanding" for these LEDs off 1 Liefepo4 cell the voltage is still way to much and causes alot of UN wanted heat.

Let me get these drivers in and ill let you know the scoop what will work. But dont worry ill get you something. Iam sure 1 out of these 4 drivers that are coming will work.:)

Whats the Host do you plan on using or you dont know yet.? Reason is these boards are big. Especially the one iam using. Its over an Inch tail and 22m wide.

Your going to need a very large light to fit any ~9A driver in there. They are all >22mm in size. More like 26mm Round and ~15mm tail.

LOL If i could see anything. In Strobe mode you cannot see anything in the room. It makes you really disoriented. The funny thing is strobe mode is only at 50% power imagine if it was full power also.:gun:

This build is awesome, great job.
These always remind me of unfocused lasers.
Ive been thinking about doing a dual green phlatlight build, and I would have to have strobe. That's crazy..

Hey Guys,

I received 1 of the drivers today.

Its the 9A one single mode.

Here:
http://kaidomain.com/product/details.S020079

Iam still waiting for this guy to come in:
http://kaidomain.com/product/details.S020121

Anyways here are the Pictures:

A quick note is there are alot and i repeat alot less parts on the driver that they show on there Pictures:

Pictures:

The IC....

DSC01168.jpg

DSC01169.jpg

The Bottom board is Just a Contact board.

DSC01170.jpg

I put the solder blobs on it to test it.

OK SO here are my testing. Or Limited testing that i can do....

The IC is this:
http://www.onsemi.com/pub_link/Collateral/NTMFS4835N-D.PDF

First things first. My Driver hits Just bellow 9A. This could be due to my test load was in efficient for 9A and could only test for 2 seconds before it overheated. Iam sure adding one more .20 Resistor will get you 9A on the money. None the less the IC can do more then 9A so thats not the problem, Looks more like budget cost with ll the parts that where removed.:undecided:

Hooked up to a Phlatlight:

It pulls ~5.4A at the tail off 2x 18650 in series.
It pulls ~3.5A at the tail off 3x 18650 in series.
It pulls ~2.5A at the tail off 4x 18650 in series.

^^^Numbers will be higher if i used thicker wire when i was testing.

The Driver Gets Hot. Needs heatsink. I did know if this is the built in thermal protection but it did start to cut off on me 2 times at ~1 minute on with 3x 18650.

I like it. It works as they say it should. Other then the heat i think this is a good option to power a Phlatlight LED if you dont mind over driving one at 9A rather then the rated currant at 8A.

I run mine at 10A and they seem to work fine up to 12A. However i managed to Kill one <<<<<Yes you read correctly killed one of those sucker with 14A going into it.!

I think these LED can take quit bit more currant then they are rated. But thats another subject.;)

Anyway thats the main stuff you guys probably wanted to here.

Iam going to make a heatsink for it in the up coming days and see if i can power Multiple LEDs on it.:D I have a light that is dieing for a driver.:eg:

Nice! I'm still waiting for my driver to come in. I got the 3A 5 mode one. I'm planning to use it in my triple XM-L build soon.

That does look a bit different than in the pictures on Kaidomain. I opened up my Ultrafire TH-T60 and found a MOSFET based driver with PWM input. Interesting stuff. Very few amount of parts.

I been mainly using DWs 9A buck driver to power up SST-90s, but this is a lot cheaper and looks like a good alternative!

Iam Hoping it can be modded to run my next Phlatlight build.:gun:

Its the 3 mode version of the one you are getting. It says it can run a single emitter at 5A so iam also guessing this guy should be able after modding to run single Phlatlight. Usually the drivers that can hit 5A can do 8A. At least thats what has been popping up lately after testing.

I also Have a Triple XML build that is dieing for a driver. In fact i might just use this 9A one. Of course turn it down. Not sure.

The Only thing i wish but the host iam use is not able to do this is use my own reflectors. I have to use that tri reflector that i used in the OP. Its like 50/50 flood and beam and i would like more of a 80/20 more being beam then flood. Hopefully in my next Phlatlight build it goes to plain.:)

When did you order your driver.?

I should be getting mine in any day now. I also wish for it not to get hot like the one iam using now in my Phlatlight build. I could not believe it when the driver does not even get HOT but a little warm.

If you get your driver in can before i do can you post as much info on it as possible that you can do.:)

Aw, sweet. I ordered mines on the 5th. It said back ordered for 3 days which had me worried, but then it went to packing then shipped. You'll probably get yours sooner than me, but I'll still post up info when I get to building it.

Why not use Ledil reflectors in your triple XM-L? I got the boom medium reflectors a while back from mouser that I'll be using for my build. They have a spot version with a 10 degree angle that might be better than the reflector in the OP.

Ah, yes I have those as well. That's (DW) Der Witchel's drivers. It is kind of pricey even though the Euro is down right now, but excellent drivers nonetheless. I also have his heat sink for the SST-90.

ive got a couple of those single mode 9A buck drivers from a german guy on CPF.

Jayrob put me onto them for the phatlight builds, they are very nice, pricey tho.

So after a month I finally received my package from KD.

Thermal conductive adhesive to smash between circuit board and body ;)

So, it seems it uses the same IC, but the other ICs on the bottom can't be seen due to the standoffs soldered on. Interesting topology, MOSFET Buck-Boost?

Before I do any testing, is the positive contact the bottom center pad? And the negative is the outer 4 pads?

Nice>! I still did not get mine.:(

Its not the same top board I dont not believe. Can you move the inductor out of the way and take a full top shot of the board.:)

Mine is Buck Only for sure.! Maybe the one you have is buck/boost but i dont think so. Its probably buck too.

Yes you are correct with the contacts.:)

Unfortunately, the toroidal inductor has 4 connections to the board and makes it difficult to move it around. This is the best picture I took:

Hopefully your package comes in soon, maybe it's stuck in customs. =[

I found it weird how it takes only a day to get to the US and then it gets stuck forever. Mine order took 1 day to get here and got cleared by customs 2 days later and then it seems it got lost while leaving Bethpage, NY and re-scanned a few days ago.
