I recently purchased one of these HIDS from a member to help them out that looks just like all the other ones I see on ebay except they are now 85W. Came in the standard box with chargers with an 11.1V 7800mAH battery. You see them all over Ebay and they just look like a nicer bigger maglight but generally come in a case for about $145 shipped (I'm sure you guys know what I mean).
I fully charged the battery and it was 12.54V at peak. The first time I tried it, it would switch between the 3 levels but would only run on high for less than a minute and not long on medium either. I ran it on low until it shut down which was somewhere around an hour.
According to the seller the light is about 1.5 years old and was apparently not used much. I recharged it a couple times as it says on the battery to discharge it completely and recharge a few times to get the capacity back if it isn't used for a long time.
I can charge it back up to 12.5 volts but now it will only switch on low power or SOS even when the battery pack isn't installed. When I had charged it the first time it would switch between the different power levels with the battery out (shows different color LEDs for the 3 levels).
After running it on low again until it shut off and the battery was completely cool and I have 11.5V out of the light, it will only switch to low or SOS. I am almost 100% positive that this morning after charging the battery would not switch to the 2 higher modes even out of the light and that was with 12.5V.

Would appreciate constructive comments or suggestions at this point. Some of you must own one of these as I have seen multiple reviews on here.
A new light runs for at least $120 without the case and a battery looks to be $75 or more also.
I'm not going to get on the members case about it as first and foremost I bought it to help him out. Regardless, I could have purchased a new one for the price I paid so I can't hide the disappointment as it looks to me as if the most likely issue is I would have to purchase an expensive battery.
It did run this morning from a full charge on low for about 60 minutes.

This is what is written on the battery and I would like to know what it means exactly as "completely discharge" could be discharge until the light won't come on again in low or switching on the 3 LEDs on the end of the battery until they turn off which can apparently take 22 hours... "If you don't use it for a long time, it will be made its performance down. So you have to re-charge and discharge completely several times before use it again in order to recover its performance"

I can certainly do that including running down the LEDs a few times.

Anyways, thanks for the help all;)

Hey Pman,

I've replied to your PM.

I've had the issue before of the battery getting stuck in low mode. I fixed it by taking it out of the light and pushing the button a bunch of times. Seems to happen when you run the light on low charge. Some sort of safety feature? Anyway, this issue is the only ome I've ever had and only happened once after a long use.

I know it isn't much but if it helps any, I can offer you 15$ as a partial refund as thats all I have left cash wise.

Anyway, let me know if you succeed in getting it out of low mode.

Not looking for money;) As I said, it is far less important that the light is working properly than helping someone out.
Pushed the button at least 50 times.
I let the battery sit with the LEDs on and now all of a sudden I can get it to switch between red/low and blue/med. The battery shows 10.5 Volts.
Since I don't have a manual I looked at other ones with specs on Ebay and they keep saying that there are "3 modes to choose from (low, medium and strong power output)" and then they talk about "gears" as in "one gear, 2 gear, 3 gear and how each gear will will let you switch between different levels as in "One gear will produce low power output only" "Two gear mode allows users to switch between the low and medium power output" and "Gear three allows usres to switch between low, medium and high output".

It seems to me that I don't have a clue how to switch "gears". If you hold the button in for 3 seconds you get SOS. I can't find anything anywhere that tells you how to switch gears and all the HIDs I see on Ebay look exactly the same and there's no extra switch or something for "gear" changes. Someone must know how to switch "gears". I keep thinking there has to be some kind of button pushing combination to switch "gears".

Yeah, I realize that's really the best option but I "need" to know the answers to my questions anyways. I am the kind of person who actually does read through directions and manuals (everything was "buy the book" when I was a Nuclear Reactor Operator in the Navy and it's just the way I am anyways). I have all manuals and documents for everything I own in files. When you've been on the earth for 49 years and have accumulated enough electronics for 20 families it's a necessity.
Well, somehow messing around with button pressing I got it to switch to mode 3. I think when it switched the green lights all blinked 3 times to show I had switched to the third gear. Someone must know how the "gear" switching works because it stays in the 3 level mode now. What I am saying is i don't think that it is any button pushing fault but just not knowing how to use it properly as I don't expect it to change to another mode again unless I randomly start messing with the button again.
I am going to finish charging it up again tot 12.5 volts and see how long it will run on high before either switching to a lower mode or going into temperature safety.
Would still like opinions on what "fully discharged" means.

Pete

Update
Unit is working much better now after cycling the battery a couple more times and will run on high until temp. cutoff many times. Still looking for answers to the above questions...

I don't have any experience with this light at all, but one trick often used for unlocking or switching mode groups is pressing a power button off and on really qucikly a certain number of times. Probably not the best idea for an HID if it tries to ignite every time, so this may not be it, but if it's one of those battery packs that has a button, maybe is worth a shot.

For example, one of my lights has an option to double-tap the power button to enable strobe. To enable this option, you have to tap the power button on and off 11 times within a certain amount of time, like 2 or 3 seconds.

Yeah, I know there's a button press trick to it because I accidentally did it twice.
