Whoa hey guys how cheap are small ones? I'm intrested in one that's brighter than my 1450 lumen spotlight from walmart.

This type of lamp rarely comes in 'small'. Xenon short arcs arent that easy to drive, and arent all that useful in sub-kW application. You may want to resort to HID lamps if you are looking at a 10-100 watt bulb range.

I'm looking for something with the best possible divergence for a non laser while maintaining high brightness. Preferably something with a smaller emitter area.

Short arc lamps have extremely small emitter area's and thats why you can see it not diverge over a long distance.

The problem with short-arc's is they require lots of cooling and are quite expensive.

That and no matter what you do, making it portable is out of the question :p

I'd say portable depends on your personal definition. IMO, if it has a handle and can be carried, it's portable. Kinda like the Maxabeam; won't fit in your pocket, but you can still easily carry it around.

Well, it would be pretty hard to carry all that weight+bulkiness and you can power it from anything other then mains power... So, a short-arc would be an almost impossible thing to make "portable"... although, as you said, portable can have many meanings/definitions

Even if its that heavy I'd get it for $450. A solid fat beam of blue-white with epic divergence would be awesome :D

By not portable I mean, the battery pack you'd need to power this thing would be insanely expensive, probably big, bulky and heavy, and you'd only get a few minutes runtime out of it at best.

That kind of power portable is calling for a huge LiPo pack -- Not cheap :p
