What diode is the best

Im pretty set on getting a 445nm laser,but as i understand it the diodes give off a rectangular beam resulting in a point that can be quite ,well... kind of rectangular dot ,obviously these can be compensated with beam expanders and other optics , but are there other diodes in the blue spectrum of light that give off a more rounded dot ,im aware that (dpss tech)(not sure if thats the correct term)may offer a solution to this but it not really in my budget

They are all good. Have you looked at DTR's website? An m140 would be a great start!

That what im talking about noobphaser ,

But yea not looking to build just yet although i dont see it being long before the urge takes over

This module looks so damn sweet though ,arrggh

Im really more talking about the pre-made laser that you can get and the variation of the quality of the beam in the blue spectrum, the only one im becoming a bit more familiar with at the moment is the 445nm wavelengh. Im really looking for a beam that produces a round dot and diverges less into a rectangle.so would one wave length be better than another in that respect, or is it purely down to the manufacture of the diode its self.cant tell whether its a strange question or not but hey haha:thinking:

then check out scifi's lasers. dragon lasers are good as well

Well there is the low power PL450B, it is single mode, but I don't know how much power you want. We don't know much yet about the new medium power PLP450, so I wouldn't even buy one just yet until a few people have one for awhile or until we have a data sheet for it. I do however have a PLTB450B and it has a smaller dot than my M140 or NDB7875, and it does 1913mW with a G2 lens, it is just slightly a different blue than the 445nm diodes. If you get one be sure not to accidently set something on fire. I have a 462nm module here but I can't comment on it until I have built the laser. I don't buy pre-made lasers, just parts, that way I know exactly what I have. I see you are in the U.K. You may want to buy a parts bundle from member Grix: BitLasers minimal assembly required and ships from Norway. Sci-Fi Lasers is good, also owned by a member here: Home ships from Israel. OdicForce In the U.K. May have something of interest. There are also the part bundles sold by Survival Laser International Home also owned by a member here and ships from the U.S. I am not sure what all countries they ship those to, again very minimal assembly is required.

If you want a small dot from a laser diode, try a single mode 405nm diode, they are only one percent as bright, milliwatt to milliwatt, as a green laser, but can be focused to an extremely fine point.

Teslaflux you are wanting single mode, not multi mode.

Be very careful with 405nm, they are not very visible yet they are very dangerous to the eye.

Remember that 532nm green will always be the brightest watt for watt and a 50mw green is more fun than 1000mw purple and a lot less dangerous, although anything over 5mw can cause blindness.

Scifi lasers look incredible the arcane in particular look very solid and the power you can get ,for reasonable cheap,very supirised i have havent stumbled across them ,cheers for the heads up heard much about them?

Alan, beast reply ,thanks for the advice firstly and the resources that followed ,im going to have to try and take that all in and have a little root around on the web in reagard to the single modes your were talking about they are definatly something i need explore ,im very keen to build one up must be a very satisfiying journey ,the host aswell as component level.i have seen some rather nice looking survival lasers builds i have to say

Thanks for the info , i take it they are considerably more expensive aswell ?,and 405nm isnt that violet-ish
