These mutliple LD builds are unique and expensive items...
You won't see WL selling them by the thousands in the
near Future...
Any portable Laser built with more output will be for bragging
rights more than for profitable sales...IMO

I really wish somebody (wannaburn COUGH COUGH COUGH) would put up a good tutorial on how to get the dr lava corrective optics setup correctly, and fairly easily, so that more people (including myself) could pursue that route. I have absolutely no experience with optics, except for putting one in my lazors.

Re: The worlds most powerful handheld 445..... 3.5W 2 LD array

... you could pull off like 20+ maxed out diodes ...
... 20x1.7= 34W of 445nm ...

[ / convulsions ] [ / brain aneurysm ]

... that kind of power in a handheld would be stupidly obnoxious.

Overpowered Laser Moron goes walking through a park, sees a man.

Moron: "Hey, you! Man!"
Man: "What?"
Moron: "Look at my 34 watt laser!"
Man: "What about it?"
Superlaser: (zap)
Headless Body who was formerly Man: "Well... THAT was stupidly obnoxious!"

You know that other debate about shining a laser into the sky...

Wonder what the reaction from CDRH would be:

Dear Sir/Mam, What is your policy on shining a 30W+ laser into the sky.

By the way Dear Sir/Mam, any rules on blinding satellites in the process of lasing away space junk?

I want a 3W+ laser, but even with the lasers I already have I'm gonna have to repaint a spot on the ceiling:eek:

30+ watts = plugging holes in ceiling, not repainting spots. :na:

(I mean... I DO agree about the stupidly obnoxious angle, I REALLY do... yet... I WANT to see one of the veterans here in the forum build it, post pics, videos... they will probably have to change their name and move to another country so that their local government doesn't harvest their brain or something...)

Pretty sure I'd have to come up with some way to plug my upstairs neighbor while I'm at it:shhh:

I keep checking this tread hoping to see some pics/beamshots of this beast in action.

For handhelds though, I mean realistically, I feel kind of conflicted.

ok you should have read more carefully my post.. I MEANT (READ IT AGAIN HERE) PORTABLE .... PORTABLE LASER!!!!!!

i know about that 8 x 445nm build.. but is that portable ??? what? NO! IT"S NOT!!!

man I get frustrated here... no one is actually reading !!!!
8x or more in a portable handheld??? ok I will be glad to see that in ... say .. about some years in the future .... don't want to say how much .. you might turn it against me :D:D:D

The 8 X 445nm builds from Andy_Con are used in Laser Projectors
that I'm pretty sure run longer than 10 seconds at a time...
(reading and research is fun....:D)

Whoa..... don't get your panties in a bunch or as we say here
in Quebec "Mange pas tes bas".... (don't eat your socks):D

Post number 121 just above yours referred to andy_con's 8X 445
build... then you stated a portable build using that 8X 445 build...
and you state a run time of 10 seconds....

1) it would never fit in a portable device... (I suppose you could
strap a car battery to your back or use a little red pull wagon.)

2) it would absolutely require TEC cooling in a "Portable" device
and that would require even more Battery capacity...

3) the mentioned andy_con 8X455 build was meant to be
installed in a projector on an aluminum heat dissipating plate
with internal cooling fans and would need to be designed very
differently to be used in a true portable device....

Yeah.. maybe in the future we will have a single Laser Diode
that will produce 10-15Watts that you can drop into a portable
device...

In the mean time we have this excellent 3.5Watt 445nm build...
You could buy 4 of them and use rubber bands or electrical
tape to hold them together and you'd have 14 Watts of Laser
goodness....

Re: The worlds most powerful handheld 445..... 3.5W 2 LD array

@foulmist... you could fit 8 diodes into a hose with optics but you would need a host larger than 8" in diameter. not very portable guy. and take it easy with the attitude man. we are all having fun here.

if it is some thing that you are so passionate about then put your money where your mouth is imo.

now lets talk about what portable means... in my opinion, portable is being able to hold the host and its power supply in one hand while being able to operate it with that same hand.

Re: The worlds most powerful handheld 445..... 3.5W 2 LD array

port·a·ble/ˈpôrtəbəl/
Adjective: Able to be easily carried or moved.
Noun: A version of something that can be easily carried.

Most portable:

Very portable but needs external power:

Still classified as portable:

Not very portable:

Definition for handheld:
hand-held: small and light enough to be operated while you hold it in your hands; "a hand-held computer"
(I would classify the first example of portable, as handheld also)

Some words do have direct definitions, foulmist. That being said, if something is a handheld it is also portable, lol.
