Re: The worlds most powerful handheld 445..... 3.5W 2 LD array

EDIT: Disregard this, I just saw your comment above about jayrob's lenses...

As far as I know, that's a longer FL lens with the same diameter as the 405-G-1 lens. So more power is internally wasted by hitting the side of the module.

Can the internals be adjusted to compensate for the worse divergence of the shorter FL lens? :)

-Trevor

What I did was setup the 2 LD's for the sharpest focus at 40ft, then
repeated the same with the correction optics after they were in place...
As it stands I think its at the best I can get it.

The 405-G! is approx 1mm larger than the aixiz glass. The fact that it
basically sits right over the LD, it gathers all that extra mW. Problem is
its a single lens and you can see the difference in a big way with the
multimode diodes.

The one thing I like about the G1's is the super narrow beam in the first
couple of feet... I just wish the divergence was a bit better, though that
extra power makes up for it.

Needs a 'goggles on before entering' warning.
I had a feeling you were working on a multi diode handheld so mine were at the ready.

Pretty much everybody who comes over knows not to enter the premises
without announcing themselves from a long way off....

Neighbors must wonder whats going on sometimes with that blue halo
above my house :D

Need to develop a higher power LaserBee.... me thinks..:shhh:

I think so.. at least one for me :san: I'd say 6W should cover
my handhelds. Thinking ahead to some labby projects I have in mind
gonna need to get my hands on something watercooled...

Fantastic and wonderful work, I can not say anything else

Thanks

A long time in the making is all I can say..

You are S.I.C.K.. You are like the Gordon E. Moore of laser... :D Your laser haven't arrived yet, i haven't even have the chance to enjoy the ~1.1W - 1.3W laser from you and yet another creation of yours doubles it. Hahahhaa... Now, I AM sick. Heheheh :D

Two thumbs up bro!

Ahhh just catching this post now. Holy mother of wtf.....!!!!

Wow man, wannaburn congrats on successfully 'kniving' those diodes with the secret corrective(?) optics as you did good sir, just brilliant!!! Beautiful host too! +

The optics are Jayrobs 405-G1 and DrLava's cylindrical lenses. no secret there..
Only the setup of the edging mirrors that is on the hush :shhh:

I'm curious as to how much this cost to make...

That's not including buying a Lathe and Milling Machine....

It's amazing how many people think that everything should be sold based on part costs.

Re: The worlds most powerful handheld 445..... 3.5W 2 LD array

Selling on the webz is much different than traditional retail.. We are
ALL getting used to the additional deals on items, and even more so
when we know what the actual parts costs are.

What makes the difference comes down to the effort and time put in,
selection of the parts used / quality, and things like warranty and design.

I purchased a combiner platform a while back from Pat from PL.. I paid what
most would say was far too much just for a mount, but considering who made
it, and the quality, I had no problem with the extra cost.

We always look for the better deal, but there is a point where time invested
becomes the major factor..

Another example would be power meters... I have no problem paying 300.$
for a high quality meter vs something I can make myself.

You get what you pay for :D

Re: The worlds most powerful handheld 445..... 3.5W 2 LD array

It's also different when a machine pumps out a bunch of flashlight/laser bodies/tailcaps/heads, or other parts, compared to when someone works in front of a lathe/mill for hours getting everything just right by themselves.

I can tell you are putting a lot of time into these 3 production units, and only wish I had the cash to lay down whatever you wanted for it. Jealous of the 3 future owners :p

Re: The worlds most powerful handheld 445..... 3.5W 2 LD array

Im working on a simpler design that does not use correction optics,
nor the 405-G1 lenses..

The goal is to get the price down and make it a bit more 'available' to those
who dont want to spend the extra. The beam would essentially be the same
as a 445 with standard glass aixiz lenses..

Same rule of thumb will be going into my combined LOC's and multi colour
lasers.

So many projects, not enough hours in the day :undecided:
