ouch. I've been declared woman-like! I am, though, confident that I am male *looks down*
yep, still male.

In my defense the laser was not fully assembled. I see that in the first pictures the switch assembly and whatnot doesn't exist yet, and the head appears to be running off an external power supply. When everything else is assembled - lenses(which lower output), switches(which add resistance), and of course, battery (which could potentially decrease output) - I am sure you all know the output will be at least slightly lower. That is what I'd like to know, how much power that beast will get you while operating as it's supposed to. Perhaps I worded my post too rudely, but we all know that real life operation is less than ideal.

Can I see a power graph please?

Seeing that we have some of these diodes running at just over 2W each.....4W build anyone? Ha. That would require a lot of crazy heat sinking for sure...and prolly would not last long!

Default Re: The worlds most powerful handheld 445..... 3.5W 2 LD array

The diodes are set to a somewhat 'safe' current as once you have to
line everything up, changing out a dead LD is the last thing you want.

One of the LD's is putting out 1.92W at a hair over 1.3A. With the
405-G1, that same (or similar) LD would easily give over 2W without
stressing it too much.

For builds like this, I save my 'cherry picked' LDs. I was going to go
for a 4+W but will reserve that for a 3 LD build

All I can say is im very pleased with the 405-G1 lenses... Although
the divergence is not that great on the 445 LD's, Lavas optics seem
to pick up the slack just fine. The power would be lower with aixiz glass
lenses, but I think they would improve the beam a bit.

I havent measured the divergence yet, but its about 1/3 if not less than
that of an aixiz and no correction...

EDIT: Disregard this, I just saw your comment above about jayrob's lenses...

As far as I know, that's a longer FL lens with the same diameter as the 405-G-1 lens. So more power is internally wasted by hitting the side of the module.

Can the internals be adjusted to compensate for the worse divergence of the shorter FL lens?

q_q I can't use the age old TL;DR excuse?

I like attention but not that kind of attention, LOL.

regarding switch resistance: oh, I see. guess it doesn't apply with lasers as much as it applies with flashlights. I would assume it's the same concept. In my experience even the best switches have resistance by design.

I am sure Wannaburn uses top notch materials. looks awesome! Not sure what parts you can get as surplus ebay stuff but I'm sure a lot of those projectors over at PL use that sort of stuff... anyways, rambling here.

Lenses? oh. observant fellow I am.

Type of batteries, yeah, I assumed he ran the head off a lab supply in that picture he took. I assume I'm wrong.

poor student here- so I can't afford something like that. I'm here for the SCIENCE! *gesticulates wildly*
