450nm Laser Diode

Title subject to change when/if new testing data changes

UPDATE

7W+ NUBM44-81/NUBM47-A1 450nm Laser Diode

The 6W+ NUBM44-71/NUBM47T the original version of this diode has been out of production for about a year now and the diodes in the projectors now in production carrying the same base designation are of a higher efficiency than to the previous but with identical beam specs so more likely just a different bin of the same production. The serial numbers on the new blocks are NUBM44-81/NUBM47-A1. They will do 7W easy and can push past 8W. The new 7W NUBM44-81/NUBM47-A1 test out more efficient and the guess is that the projector company was more after a specific wavelength bin. Efficiency and wavelength tend to be inversely proportional when diodes are binned. Reports from a customer of mine that batch bins them for wavelength is showing wavelength is slightly lower by several nm on average in these new batches closer to 445nm than the older batches from the previous version which were up around 450nm. From what I hear they get better reaction near 445nm with the pospher in the projectors to make green light.
Anyway probably just call them NUBM44-V1 and NUBM44-V2 to keep it simple.

For Clarification

There is some confusion that the power difference is 44 vs 47 which is not correct. It is 6W NUBM44-71/NUBM47T vs 7W NUBM44-81/NUBM47-A1. 44 is a 8 bay block and 47 is a 10 bay block. !!Also so there is some way to know what you have if you have purchased a NUBM44 from me in the last six months this new version is the diode you have received and a mixed chance for it being either a V1 or V2 version going several months back of that. I mention as I have had a lot of questions about if the diodes ordered recently were the V1 or V2!! Also of note there are a lot of the projectors with the V1 diodes that are being retired by organizations currently and computer shops pulling the blocks of these stockpiles and shipping them off to china or even units being sold as whole in lots to sellers. Like the M140 variants, NDB7875 diodes and some others there are now a lot of used V1 versions of these diodes being pulled from used or EOL units.

So here is the new bad boy on the block. My meter does not read past 6.8W but this diode is clearly doing well over 7W but I will call it 6W till someone can show some testing further than I can with my meter. In this video I show how my meter is maxing out. @ 4.5A it does 6.8W and I ran it for about two minutes @ 5.5A with the meter pegged at max the whole time never a drop in reading so there is a very good chance it is doing much more than that.

So there you have it more data to come along with some wavelength testing.

Re: V1 445nm Laser Diode

I don't have them for general sale yet as I only got one projector but I do have a few on hand to sell. Was looking to get a few of them in the hands of those that can do power testing over 7W or spectro them but shoot me a PM if you want one.

Re: V1 445nm Laser Diode

Is this the Array GB diode? It looks like this is going to make for some really powerful handhelds. Imagine a tri-diode build with this... 3x 6W minus optical losses... 15W? :lasergun: That should obliterate the previous record of 7.3W

Very nice stuff, can't wait for the extra info (especially wavelength, aren't these rated for 455nm?)

Re: V1 445nm Laser Diode

Ah. But it's the same diode or no? I guess time will tell..

Re: V1 445nm Laser Diode

Have you tried it with a three element yet to see if it produces 6 watts even with the loss from the three element?

Re: V1 445nm Laser Diode

Speaking of lens, are the kenses in these just trash like most of the 9mm projectors?

Also, pm sent...

Re: V1 445nm Laser Diode

Fantastic!

These also seem to be a lot more efficient than the other blues.

What's the beam like?

Re: V1 445nm Laser Diode

Curious as to why you can't read higher than that. What is the limiting factor with your meter? Is it just the display so you could just use a multimeter or something else?

Most likely the voltage of the split-rail supplying the Ophir. Im guessing 2x9V batts. He can probably read it fully if he uses +-15V or something.

Yea when I built it I used two 9V DC-DC converters. This was when getting to 3W was an amazing feat. I just don't feel like rebuilding it at the moment with 12V ones.

Re: V1 445nm Laser Diode

Oh my god, this is incredible. I was just reading some old threads around the time where 1W Blues were all the craze. Now look at this! 7 watts from a SINGLE DIODE!! Can't wait until someone gets their hands on one of these and puts them into a host. Best of luck with them, Jordan! +rep

Re: V1 445nm Laser Diode

Well the other reason I asked is I have a feeling im in the same boat. I think I'm running 5V and 2 9V cells. Didn't even think about a limitation when we were all building them either.

Re: V1 445nm Laser Diode

Amazing diode  , thanks for sharing Jodan!

Pete, I think a lot of us are going to find ourselves in that situation, using the two 9v power supply. It didn't seem like a limiting factor just a short time ago.
