I've had a couple of all brass lasers that I purchased from Trussmonkey about a year or so ago that I believe originally had 3W 9mm in them that were blown. Took a long time to decide what to do with them as they had 9mm size press in sinks and I didn't want them to just be another 445nm. I had build a few M462 builds already and had not realized that the other 462nm diode was 9mm (NDB7775) so when I noticed it I finally had something more speciAL than a 445nm and that would be OK with only brass as a heatsink.
The way the hosts are put together there is a 9mm hole in a brass heatsink that press fits into the heavy host and the large driver has an extreme amount of some kind of grey apoxy all over it to hold t to the heatsink as there is a large spring on the end of it for the battery to push against.
The drivers worked after removal of all that stuff but their setting was too high so I bought new sxd drivers and attached them to the old drivers that I had removed all of the components from so I could use them in the same manner.

1.8A sxd driver outputs 1.8W

They are very shiny nice looking and I should have cleaned them off better before taking the pics. I think I need to measure the weight. There's something about weight and that feeling of substantial that ups the quality.
pm2ei6Pqj

They are really heavy solid brass plus the addition of running off of (2) 18650 each.

You can see a Kryton groove in red to show the relative size of how long they are

I haven't taken any beam shots yet but I'll add them later. I won't be home until this afternoon.

OK, notice the all copper M462nm. That was the one (M462) that I used to have an outside coupling in the middle and now changed it over for a nice smooth look
pld7wJpMj

2 A140 builds that I did that I haven't shown. Notice anything interesting about that longer A140 build Jeff? Kind of reminds me of a cheapo 3 pack of lights I got from someone;) Feel so light in weight in comparis on but they look slick too.
The smaller one has a boost for a single 14500 and is 1.8W while the larger has a blitzlinear driver at 1W off 2 14500.

Now look at the colors this way
1.8W 462nm, 1.8W A140, 1W A140, 1.8W 462nm

Look at the colors with the 2 462nm on the right end
1.8W A140, 1W A140, 1.8W 462nm, 1.8W 462nm

Haha. Hopefully when I get home but I also have to help my neighbor with some stuff. I should have another 07E build done this week too so I'll have (2) 470nm+ at 4.5A+. Really curious to see where the second one peaks at initial start as the first one hits just over 6W somehow. I think the first one is hitting 473nm or even higher comparing to my actual 473nm. Such a large difference in output that you can't really compare them. Want to see how both 07E compare to each other. The first one was getting a bit over 4.8A.

Haha, fair enough, just teasing anyway! :D

That sounds awesome though - I'll be looking forward to seeing some more pictures . Might be able to get a good comparison next to the 473 if you use a filter of some sort (Dichro, partial reflect mirror, ND filter, whatever works! :p) to "lower" the power of the 07E so that it doesn't overwhelm the 473. Just dump the "waste" beam into a brick or something while you compare.

That's some nice crafty work there Pman. Perfect host for that diode. It must feel so good in the hand. Kudos:beer:

Nice pair you've got there Pete, ....lasers that is! Seriously though, great job on those builds!
Brass is definitely a different material for laser hosts, not so great for heat, but a nice solid feel in the hand.

I'm working on a smaller brass host myself, it's going to be a frankenstein combo. of parts from two hosts to make one host long enough for a decent cell.

Re: Twin 462nm all brass builds

Looking forward to Frank Jeff:)
Just posted a few beam pics with 2 A140 builds that I hadn't posted. Interesting how the A140s are different wavelengths. One is much more violet than the other.

Re: Twin 462nm all brass builds

I think I have these exact same hosts! I got them on ebay for a about $80 and they had what seems like a m140 in them. Very beautiful hosts, just wish they didn't scratch as easily

Once they die I might put some other nice diode inside. :D

Nice work Pete! It's always really interesting to see how you mod your pen builds. How many have you built now?

Re: Twin 462nm all brass builds

I have no idea how many but you could count the ones in my collection thread lol

Need some help here. I have another 07E coming that should be a minimum of 470nm. Here are my host choices that I have heatsink for. I have 1 C mag sink and 1 D mag sink and a sink for the black spikeT6 and another for those MX900 hosts (actually one for each of those but one is a 12mm and the other is for a 9mm that has 2 halves that screw to each other and I could obviously swap them. The 07E is coming with a 4.5A SXD (seperate) and is already pressed in and will have a full copper back half. Actually forget about spike as he has a 9mm screw together 35mm so that won't work. It's between the black C mag, D mag in either a black, blue silver or kind of a gray color or one of the 2 different color MX900 which one is kind of a bronze and the other is more dark silver. If it's a MX900 I'll have to see what colors I've already used as I know at least one of them is different than the others I've made. Somewhere someone sells an extension for them so I could lengthen it but it's not necessary. Would like to know where to get that extension though so if someone has a link let me know.
So, help me choose my friends:)

poUgBry5j

The heatsink but they are all adequate so don't think in terms of sink size especially as I don't run them long. Yes, the largest one actually goes in the C mag believe it or not.

All of the D mags were bought on sale in Home Depot a couple months ago on closeout for about $5 each. I have to of those gRey looking ones that are actually LED at 18 lumens over the dismal normal 27 lumen ones. Also have 1 more sliver one too.

Don't remember if I showed that I had also snagged these 2 lanterns for somewhere under $10 each also that are really nice. They have modes but with the included 3d batteries are rate to run at 530 lumens for 40 hours. I've got a few other smaller lanterns but these kill the others. 15' drop tested and 1 meter submersible too. I should have stopped there today but forgot:(

**Bow/Jeff, recognize that larger A140 build host from the beam shot pics I added to the thread? :)

Hey Pete, thanks for the heads-up PM, I wouldn't have seen that host otherwise! It looks a bit different without the original head on it. I kind of like it that way. :)
Glad you could put them to good use, I haven't used mine in a build yet.

I'd pass along some "green" to you, but I'm told I must share with others first.

Re: Twin 462nm all brass builds

Well I don't have any mag builds other than the Jayrob green PT54 phlatlight and that doesn't count since it isn't a laser. I have a couple MX builds already so it would make more sense to go with a Mag. I think I would either put it into the gray or blue. It seems obvious to put it in the blue but the beam is lighter than the host color not that that should matter. As I mentioned, although I have all these hosts I can actually only build 4 total or 5 if you count the spike one. Keep thinking I should build both mags and the spike before the MX ones since I have those already.
I suppose it doesn't really matter as any of these larger builds cost so much more and I don't know when I will spend the money to do another anyways.

Pete, If you do go with the Mag, go with the gray, there's lots of blues out there. :D

Yeah. I haven't seen any like the gray. That was the color the 2 LED Mas came in.
