Default Thoughts and Advice needed

Hi all, this is my first post, though I have been lurking here for a while. I am preparing to do my first build and would like some opinions and advice on my current plan.

I decided to go with the 9mm 445nm diode from DTR's. I also ordered the survival lasers S4 host with copper pill and extended and tapered copper heatsink.

I also ordered the driver from Survivallaser. It is an adjustable driver, with a range of 1.1A-2.3A. I was planning on running it at the full power of 2.3A which would give me around a 2.7W laser.

After doing a little more reading on the 9mm diodes, I am now concerned that the heatsink that I am getting will only allow for very short bursts of use. I was hoping to be able to have a cycle like 60 seconds on 60 seconds off, but I think I may have underestimated the heatsink requirements for the 9mm diode.

Any thoughts or opinions, including options (ie. different hosts and heat sinks) would be greatly appreciated. I have already spent about $200 on this build (including batteries, charger, and glasses) and would like to keep additional costs at a minimum.

We are all glad to know you are using goggles!! As far as the heat sink goes. You are just going to have to feel it out. If your driver is adjustable then start low and work your way up. Also since you got the extended copper heatsink I think you will be okay with a duty cycle of 60 seconds on and off. However your driver may need heatsinked as well and is recommended if you want to run that high of current. Ask Flaminpyro he has copper shims for your driver. Good luck!!

Great, I guess I will see how warm it gets and adjust my duty cycle accordingly. Unfortunately, I accidentally toasted my first diode, so I ordered a new one from DTR. This time I decided to get the diode with the driver all ready attached. This means that there really is no option to heatsink the driver. It is inside the module and there is no room for a heatsink in there. I should have the new diode and battery board before the end of the week. I will let you know how it goes.

Yes the driver is inside the module. However you can unscrew the back half of the aixiz module to expose the driver. Just be careful when installing it in your host as you do not want this touching any metal.
