Spartan 1w and light scatter

Ive had my Spartan for about a day now and ive begun to notice a fair bit of scatter. ive tried to clean it with q-tips and rubbing alcohol to no avail and ive been using a vacuum cleaner ad a makeshift air compressor but that hasn't seemed to help. i have tested the power by attempting to burn things and it seems up to par but is this scatter any more than a nuisance?

well you might have made it worse with the alcohol. an explanation from flaminpyro is that hosehold alcohol doesn't have a high enough alcohol rating and contains some water. so when it evaporats it can and usuallly leaves a haze. there are professional cleaning products out there. or you can pm flamin and see if he still offers his cleaning services.

That would probably explain some of it Im just hoping I didn't scratch it. Visually i doesn't look like it. Can I pick something up at a pharmacy or walmart or something like that?

no, not those stores. like professional supply stores. also are you sure is the can window or the lens? just in case you cant tell.....

turn the lens and if the "mess" turns too it is the lens. but pay attention to any specks that don't move cuz those are on the can window.

I can't turn the lens because it's way down in there. All Ive done is use another Lens to diffuse the beam enough to see the spots on it and what not. I can see some imperfections in the light but none visible on the Lens.

What is the window? Is that on the diode? Because I can't see anything past the lens.

In the Spartan, there's only the diode, and then the collimating lens. The cap on top just has a hole in it to catch scatter, ironically enough. So it has to be on the lens.

This is assuming that the 1W is a similar design to my 400mW, that is.

it doesnt have to be on the lens at all... remember it is a mans hands that assembled it. and if the proper precautions werent taken, said assemblers finger prints or dust can be on the can window.

try this....
but make sure the logo or some detail you can remember is always facing you.

shine your laser on a wall. pay close attention to the scatter detail... then take a dry q-tip and wipe the lens. then shine on the wall again. did the pattern change?

Ok I just did it and it does seem to change. At least the large disturbances because I can't remember every tiny dot.

heres a picture of just the scatter. the beam is hitting a box. this is maybe 15 feet or so.

After the latest photographs I took, and replaced the batteries, the scatter in my laser has just increased to a horrible amount. Heres a picture of mine:

It's so bad that the beam is no longer fun to look at in the night sky because it's surrounded by a haise :-( I've sent DL a email.
