Default Some Beam Shots of my Spartan 447nm

Some Beam Shots of my Spartan 447nm 1W using Lithium Photo Cells. Here are a few previews I links, I have more on my Flickr Set:

This last one is a longer exposure to show off how crooked the beam is coming out of the host. I layed it down on a sock and slowly rotated the host. This is why the beam expander I have is pretty much useless. I still fall in the 7 day satisfaction window for the return, so I am having the laser returned in hope of getting a straighter exit beam. DL claims it is not subject to warrenty as a defect, its just a feature of the laser...which do not sound right to me.

The image set on my flickr account can be found here:

Wow, that first picture is incredible! Excellent work! That should definitely be nominated for some kind of laser photo contest. The second pic is quite amazing as well.

youd be better off with a medium powered green laser with a much thinner beam if your gonna target with it IMO . nice shots i got the 400mw now im spewing i didnt get the 1watt cos the beam looks clean like the 400 oh well i still like it.

Hopefully the next one is straight.

These 'pointers' or handhelds are rarely perfectly on axis and if they don't rotate off axis as above when just turning, they will do so when you rotate a focus lens.

If you plan on using it as a aiming device, you're going to need X/Y axis adjustments to put the beam on your POA/I. (Windage/Elevation)

I'd be interested to see if any of the laser hobbyists around here can produce such a host.

You either have a much better camera than I do or more humidity in the air... I'd kill to get pictures like that with my Spartan. Very nice!

Canon 450D XSi with a 50mm 1.8F Lens

ISO: 1600
Shutter: 1 second

before each shot I used the automatic setting with the flash to set the focus, then turned manual focus on. I did this because without being able to look through the viewfinder and focus on a point...you cant focus, nor can you use auto focus if it can't find something bright/sharp to focus on. For some of the shots, I simply focused out to infinity since I was not directed to focus on anything close.

Oh and these photo's where taken at 10pm-ish it was completely dark

Yeah, I've just got an older Canon PowerShot A570IS here... Although it did amazingly well taking some pictures of my Spartan's diode heatsink/driver assembly earlier today. I did have a bright halogen light shining on the parts though, and a perfectly steady surface, so that might've had something to do with it.

Here's a few extra shots with the beam and my stock 18-55mm lens:

And then a few extra beam shots from further down the beam origin. Please note that I think the batteries are getting weaker now, as the beam does not seam as bright to my eye:

Great Beam shots... I have heard a lot of people say that the beam is more purpleish than blue. These really show that color trend. What did it look like going through your 70-300 compared to the 18-55?

Also this is kind of random but does your laser/the spartan in general come with any stickers on it?

No stickers at all, not even with the box.

To my eye it does seam to be a bit more on the violet side, rather then blue. I'm I'm fine with that :-)

I hate those damn safety stickers that come on most laser's. Really annoying to have on a good looking laser
