Try soldering a tiny bare wire bridge between the negative driver contact and a spot on the heatsink that you sanded? I have not yet used one of these hosts so It may not be possible if the heatsink has to sit on some sort of ridge inside the host, if that is the case ignore this suggestion. Here is a quick diagram of the suggestion with the stripped bare wire piece in red and solder points in blue:

You could even do this bridge on the opposite side for an even better connection if you felt like it. Assuming again that it will work in the host :p

when in doubt-never insert battery to see if that is the correct polarity and IF the driver has reverse polarity protection-- I put a +(or-) someplace inside the tailcaps, on the barrel or both. I use a fine tip sharpie or a label maker.
You may have a poor connection or the driver finally did get enough abuse to die-

Test with just the diode /driver in the heatsink- if it works then your issue is with another connection. hope this is helpful--------hak

No offense to the BlitzBuck driver's maker but, you may be better off grabbing one of the Mohgasm linears or an X-Drive. I had back luck with that driver(two actually) and TBH I no longer trust it.
