You can also get a single mode 450nm with nice beam specs.

IIRC member Kizdawg got one outputting 400mW.

@DJNY: any idea how much those diodes cost? Or a company that sells them so I can look it up? My main problem with the 445nm diodes is the multimode beam specs. Also, after seeing just how much a half watt 405 is willing to wreck shi* up, I question what I would do with a 1-2 watt 445.

You can get them for $50 from DTR IIRC.

But getting such an efficient one, is pure luck.

I don´t like the MM beam specs either.
