I am using a Guidesman host with a Mohgasm Driver set to 1.6A using 2 Trustfire 16340's. The current draw is 1.58A and the voltage accross the 2 is 7.6V. the batts are 880mah

The problem I'm having is the beam is weak and can hardly punch through a CD case, also after about 30 seconds, the brightness dips and starts flashing ??

I've tried 2 different batts and the same, these are brand new batts too :undecided: any ideas ?

Flashing laser means almost always overheating driver. Did you heatsink the driver ? They can be very hot at 1.6A

Yeah that probably isn't enough at 1.6A. In fact, I'm pretty sure of it. A heatsink needs not only to be able to absorb heat, but also re-emit it or transfer it away from the object it is sinking heat from. A coin just won't do that.

I would of thought a copper coin would of done it tho

would that explain the other problems tho, low power output ???

I could order another driver, I'm going to make sure everything is soldered correctly and h'sinked properly first, it does sound like the same symptoms as offroadfreak had tho so maybe a crappy 445 ????

Are your coins actually copper? Here in the US ours are actually zinc, and only plated copper. Our "silver" coins are actually nickel based.

Yep, that figures. Steel is actually a pretty poor conductor of heat.

well I tried to re-wire everything to see if it was a loose connection, and now killed the diode completely !!!, 3rd time lucky ?????

I don't know what's going on ??? I got another diode, tested the driver ~ 1.6, shorted the caps, hooked it all up and all I get is a dim blue glow :( could it be the batts by any chance ??? Trustfire 16340's 800mah !!! X2 using a Mohgasm driver as before !!

At this point I think you had better invest in a Dummy Load and a good multimeter if you don't have one already. Dummy loads are easy to make from parts or only about $10 iirc to order. You need to measure the current and voltage going to the diode under load. With those numbers we would be able to diagnose what is going on for sure.
