So i made a dll driver and set it to 490mw and it lases but it is very dim compared to my ggw running at 220mw.
Is this normal its blue and very nice but not high powered...
At what current does it start to dazzel?
Can some one draw up a simple ddl driver for this to go 1 wat i got a huge heatsink on the lm317.
when i first turn on the laser its nice and bright but then dims.. maybe low power batterys? its a battery powered bread board.
going to use a pc power supply post findings in min.
oaky it was the powersupply and i must say DAMN!@!@!
soo cool

Default Re: Post your mA and mW

Woohoo, I have blue!

I'm very happy to announce the birth of some 445 nm photons from a Casio 140 projector diode.

Running from a Dr.Lava BoostDrive, (set for 540-1000mA), powered by Bench PSU, (set up for a 3.6V CR2 rechargeable at full charge though).

4.2V in, 4.12V across the diode.
513mA output using a 6 diode RCKSTR test load.
611mA down to 590mA, (after a little heating up), draw from PSU.
389mW peak settling to ~ 375mW, (after the same heating up), Aixiz standard, large aperture, acrylic lens.
504mW peak settling to ~ 490mW, Jayrob 405-G-1, (I think?), lens.
434mW peak settling to ~ 419mW, Aixiz 3 element 405nm AR coated lens.

These were all measured on a Laserbee I in custom case at approx 120mm.

The only query I have regards this setup is the current draw from the PSU when using all 6 diodes on the RCKSTR testload was just over 800mA? Is this significant or just the difference between 4.2V, (6 x 0.7V drop), and the 4.12V eventually needed by the diode? Is this likely to have changed the actual mA output?

I was too excited to take any pics and it was light anyway but I did put my hand in the beam... And removed it damn quickly too! Smoke of just about everything it touched. (well focussed or not!)

More measurements to take with the different lenses I have. When we eventually graph all these can we seperate out the lensing solutions please? Might make the spread of any particular diodes a bit clearer.

More to come later...

M

If you want to push 1A through diode then you need 1.25ohm resistor (2W)

How much voltage do you give to LM317?

You can't power it up with one Li-ion battery, you must use 2xLi-ion (2x18650 would be great).

If the output is rising and falling, there is something wrong with the driver or power supply (battery). Diodes don't dim and brighten on their own.

Being bright at the beginning and then dimming is usually the battery not providing enough juice. However, it could also be a component on the driver or even a poor connection somewhere.

Peace,
dave

**EDIT** -- nvm. I see you figured it out while I was typing

Default Re: Post your mA and mW

Just updating with some more measurements. I will update my other post, (#116), too.

Same set up as before -

@ 513mA -

Aixiz standard, large aperture Acrylic lens - 389mW peak settling to 375mW after approx 30sec

Jayrob's 405-G-1(?) - 504mW peak settling to 490mW after approx 30sec, (Yay, personal best here breaking the 1/2Watt barrier!)

Aixiz Glass 405nm AR coated - 434mW peak settling to 419mW after approx 30sec

I hesitate to work out the % gains etc because it depends which output you start from so, Jay, if you can let me know where you started your calcuations then we can do an accurate percentage gain in output but just under 30% gain from standard Aixiz to yours?

I didn't test the stock Casio lens as I haven't mounted it yet. I'll follow the same procedure when I do though.

I hope this is useful info and I haven't missed the same comparisons elsewhere.

Thanks all,

M

These diodes are all over the graph. Too many variables.
Mine sorta follows the red line graph above. It does get real warm over 500 mA. Be careful there.
For now -- stable 500 mW @ 660 mA with an aixiz housing and a Jayrob 405-g1 lens. 4.1 Diode volts.
Variable I/V Supply and Scientec 365 meter.
HMike

Why can't I see the color of money anymore? It looks gray.

Here's my raw data on diode 1 from the early GB with EF.
This is mounted in an Aixiz housing, Jayrob 405-G1 lens, variable V/I power supply and Scientech 365 meter. The housing gets very warm above 500 mA so be careful.

200 ma -- 23 mW -- 3.7 Vld
300 ma -- 125 mW -- 3.8 "
400 ma -- 244 mW -- 3.9 "
500 ma -- 340 mW -- 4.0 "
600 ma -- 450 mW -- 4.1 "
700 ma -- 550 mW -- 4.1 "
800 ma -- 633 mW -- 4.15 "
900 ma -- 720 mW -- 4.2 "
1000 ma -- 820 mW -- 4.25 "
1210 ma -- 1000 mW -- 4.3 "

I keep tests short because of heating and I have not mounted the Aixiz housing in the large aluminum housing mount. I may rebuild this mount to add mass.

Default Re: Post your mA and mW

Hear is one of my diode's with a TEC, from EF's GB 2 & 3. Aixiz Glass 405 Lens.
190ma - 6mW
250ma - 105mW
300ma - 169mW
350ma - 236mW
400ma - 299mW
440ma - 361mW

I am only using a rkcstr driver so max is 440ma, still undecided on a permanent driver.
Thought these might be useful to those not whanting full power from this diode.
Im waiting on a Digital Temperature Meter, but the module was cold to the touch for theses measurements.

Default Re: Post your mA and mW

Hmmm... my little SS CR2 build is now at 280mW's after using it bit tonight...
(even at a slightly discharged batteyr - 3.85 volts)

Maybe a burn in period??

Edit: Scratch that... Man I've been staying up too late! I remember that I took out the 'small aperture sleeve' to send it to Dave...

That's why it gave more power...
