A quick test with my a 445 diode, flexdrive set at 603 ma with an aixiz acrylic lens showed 380 mW. heatsink is made of aluminum.

Alright, I have completed my build using the following:

Host - Dorcy Metal Gear
Diode - A130
Driver - FlexDrive V5 @ 604mA
Module - Jayrob custom 1/2" copper module
Batteries - (1x)10440 3.7v Lithium-Ion and (1x)Energizer 1.5v Lithium
Output - 530mW (no lens)
- 445mW (old Aixiz 405)
- 480mW (405-G-1)

I know the battery configuration is very non-standard but the combined voltage works really well.

Why do you need the 1.5 V energizer?

It's a space filler and increases the voltage from the batteries to about 5.7 volt. Since I have wiggle room inside the battery chamber I think I will change to setup to two 3.7v 10440s wired in parallel instead. That would be a much more stable configuration and give me more battery life :)

i always tought it was dangerous to use 2 different types of lithium batteries in series?

Just finished getting my home brew Labby up and running, using an A140 Diode, a questionable glass lens (lets not go there right now) mounted in a Z-bolt heat-sink, powered by a lab grade PSU that is fixed at 5V @ 1.25A I have measured the voltage with the Laser running and it's 4.85v it's putting out 1.14 Watts of beatiful 445nm :)

I haven't done any current draw measurements, but the PSU was checked on an O-scope and is putting out good clean power. But I can't speak to it's exact current, other than it's rated by the manufacture @ 1.25A

I've got a couple of DIY handheld 445nm, but I wanted to break the 1Watt "barrier" and join the 1W Club. I didn't have a Labby 445nm yet, so this was an easy way to get to 1W. It's been up and running for only about ~ 20mins so far and I'm happy with it, just need to see what I can mount it in/on for something more permanent; right now it's just wired-up on the bench.

I love those Z-bolt heatsinks!! Great for only $15 bucks!!

The MXDL heatsink holding my diode gets very warm after only a minute at 200mA. I would have thought that it wouldn't get warm at all at such a low current. :thinking:
Does anyone else have a diode which gets warm at this current?

Also, the lasing threshold is 207mA for me. The output is 13mW. The beam profile is even worse at lower currents. :(

I originally thought I was going to do a thorough test of each diode, increasing by 50mA and measuring the mW, but I don't have to time to do that. However, I compared my 2 a140 diodes at 500mA. With one of the diodes I got 636mW :D but the other one was only 504mW.

I would say at this point, there has been enough documentation to confirm a difference between A130 and A140 diodes. Out of all of the 445nm diodes I have tested, I see a clear cut difference between them, and everyone's tests appear to agree.

Similar result here for a A140 in a big aluminum heatsink, stock aixiz plastic lens, custom constant-current driver:

mA - mW
600 - 404
700 - 490
800 - 607
900 - 670
Threshold: ~240 mA to start lasing properly.

These are just some quick crude measurements, and i cannot get it close enough to the sensor to measure without the lens.

A130 diode with Micro Boost Drive running at 400mA with an output = 195mW through 405-G-1 lens.
