Exclamation Plastic window on A140 Diode

Ok i had noticed that on my new 445nm build that there was a distorted spot in the middle of the beam that could clearly be seen. I though it was just the aixiz acrylic lens that I was using since it didn't show up till a few days after building it so I figured the lens Just started to melt some. Anyways today I got my Aixiz 445nm Glass lens in the mail so when I went to try the new lens out and I noticed it was still there so I unscrewed it and saw that there is actually a small melted looking spot in the middle of the clear window on the diode it self Now I dont know what to do... Was I supposed to remove the window in the first place? Can it even be removed? please any help would be greatly appreciated! I looked all over the place before making this post and had no luck...

Camera is M.I.A. Right this minute but will get a picture up A.S.A.P.

Default Re: Plastic window on A140 Diode

i swear your suppose to use glass lens, why'd you use acrylic lens in the first place

and if your talking about the glass thing on the diode then no, that is part of the diode and your not suppose to take that out

you prolly messed up your diode with the acrylic lens but i dont know cause i havent even tried a 445nm so yeah

Contact(PM) DTR- he de-canned one for me. It still is working fine-(12X) but extra care must be taken to keep anything from getting inside the die.( keep a lens on it) the stuff on he window may be thermal paste and it may be removable with a QTip. meantime do not run the laser as you will just bake whatever the stuff is onto your window.

It certainly won't last longer. The can is there to protect it from contaminates getting on the die. But you can minimize the risk by always leaving your lens in. There is also a risk that the diode could be damaged by decanning it. Here is a link to a post where I show my method. PRINCE Song

As far as an increase that is unknown. Most of the ones that I have decanned had loose diode windows right out of the projector or came to me with damaged cans so I did not get a chance to test their efficiency before the surgery.

I recommend a magnifying lens, a q-tip and optical cloth and some acetone or denatured Ethyl Alcohol.

I think you will find that after a shot of solvent, no problems ! .
I cleaned my PHR pen from o-like this way. Perfect optical properties since!

Default Re: Plastic window on A140 Diode

1) the window is coated glass
2) spot in the shape of the beam profile is normal to be seen. There is slight change in color, it is the coating which is bleached there. Even completely new diodes have it.
3) if you have some dust, I use either corner of paper tissue folded into triangle, or teflon tape twisted around a toothpick.
4) if you have some piece of melted plastic there, good luck with that. Still it should get of with toothpick, and some minor damage to the surface of the window is not a problem.
5) check the 'cleanness' of the window by pointing the laser at the wall with no optics at all. Any circular fringes are the dust. You should only see clean waves in one direction.

Default Re: Plastic window on A140 Diode

ALWAYS remove the battery (or unplug the power source) when examining a diode window!

I have watched two different decanned diodes slowly degrade over time. Avoid it if you can. There is a reason that they are sealed inside a can

Peace,
dave
