Perceiving 445nm

I think there was another thread about it somewhere, entitled "How do YOU see 445" but I can't find it - So I'm going to ask the question again!

I see 445nm as almost a brighter 405nm, completely purple, but just a bit lighter and brighter. I see 0% blue in 445, nothing like what pictures show.

Same here, but the beam only appears purple to me when im outdoors..
When im indoors it looks like royal blue to me.

It may look different depending on the color of your walls, background.
Make sure you try with a white background.

And for me, It looks blue. Totally different then 405. *said 445, oops

I've only actually looked at the beam outdoors (shining it into the sky).

I don't have anywhere to shine it inside without it being potentially eye damaging...

How you perceive color may very well be different from others, but it it has always been that way, then there is no way to tell that there is a difference, unless the color perception difference is rather dramatic, as seen with color blind individuals. Knowing the specific wavelength of a laser "color" such as 445nm gives us a unique ability to describe a color more accurately then say "aqua blue" since the exact shade of aqua blue may very well be up for determination, where as a description of wavelength can be tested and confirmed. :tinfoil:

If you have always seen 445nm as say....405nm, or even 445nm as 532nm, you would never know unless there was a way to test how your perception of color is different from that of the status quo. What you call green may be red to us...ect Unless you come out and start dressing is totally unmatched colors, but then again we may just think your odd, lol :na:

445 looks like a deep royal blue to me both indoors and outdoors, beam or spot. The scatter always appears slightly violet though..

Looks like rich deep blue to me. Both beam and dot (at a distance). Have never really seen the splash since my goggles eliminate it up close and I don't notice it at a distance.

I have two though. One seems to be oddly lower frequency than the other. Perhaps its just my perception but one seems to have more white to it while the other is a deeper blue. My eyes dont focus on the beam very well for either though. The dot I can focus on, the beam I see as really fat with haze around it.

To me 445 looks indigo blue heading toward violet at powers of less than 50mw, especially at low mw powers; 5mw or less looks almost violet. At higher powers of 100mw plus it looks much more like clear sky royal blue.

The multiple responses describing blue almost make me question my diode. Everyone that I ask also sees violet (when shot into the black night sky). But I see blue only when reflected off of a white surface.

Beam is close to violet.
Scattered reflections are close to violet.
Dot is a deep indigo. More blue than violet, but is definitely not "true blue."

When comparing 405, 445, and 473nm, the difference is quite clear.
405 is pale in comparison to either. 445 is the "deepest" color and the harshest to look at. 473nm is soft and pure in comparison to either.
I should try to get some comparison pictures today since I have the day off.

I just got done building about 50 modules, and there were a couple that are around 450nm that are an almost pure blue to my eyes.. the vast majority of the a14 diodes are 445 or longer, most at about 457nm, the a13 diodes are mostly centered at 445nm hence the difference in brightness.
