Its got a nice heatsink on it, but I wonder why they warn against currents >750mA?

Interesting comment on their page:

"power can be adjustable ,but suggest not >750mW considering of diode lifespan"

Do you think they have some kind of information or test result to say that, or is it just a guess ?

oh. so they arent doing a handheld. thats a bit lame :D

the >750mW thing is mostly just to do with estimated diode life. for example, maybe at 1W you get about 3000 diode life instead of 5000. nothing to be conerned about for us really unless you are completely obsessed with it lol

I bet the laser scanner people would love to have those extra 2000 hrs, though.

Besides, who's to say this won't fit in a maglite

Because currents over 750mA cannot survive continuous duty cycle..

Also did she say that they are not doing a handheld or is it just being released later?

My guess is that more 445 lasers, most likely portable, will be released soon. They said there would be more than one 445 laser by the end of next week. If they have only 4 units in stock, they're probably planning on releasing something else.

Agreed. O-Like producing a 445nm labby does not in any way mean that they won't make a portable. They do have other labs+handhelds of other frequencies, after all.

I didn't see anywhere for you to screw that labby down to a breadboard. Also what do you suspect the current range of that driver is? Do you adjust it yourself or ask for a preset current before they send it out?

price is hopeful for the portable at least. looks like they will beat the competition again for price :D
didnt think they'd find a way to undercut ~$200
