ya the driver is enclosed, I opened the other one up to see what was going on in there and was greeted with a potted PCB lol

it seems to have a current pot that I haven't played with, but like I said, I needed analog modulation so off it went

the melles is quite beautiful I assure you (especially with the beam splitter/combiner setup) but man, these modules are TINY and put out over a watt of blue for a couple hundred bucks?

honestly I am still waiting to wake up from this dream lol

Thanks.

It looks rather time consuming, how you can't focus it in "real time" while the beam is on, but you have to turn the beam off, tweak the focus, see if the beam is focussed the way you want it, turn it off again, tweak the focus again... until the proper focal distance is achieved.

I wonder if O-Like will ever sell a tool that would make focussing easier: I think a design like this would do:

I'll ask them.

it would probably cost as much to ship it to you as buying another (better) driver :\

plus someone already PM'd me about it sorry

heres a pic of my o-like in its final spot (hopefully lol)

its really tiny!!!

Default Re: O-Like Now Stocking 445nm

Hello, this is my very first post on this forum and have been "lurking" here for years. I built my first Helium-Neon laser power supply when I was like 13 (now late 30's) for a science project and I have had fascination with them ever since.

Anyways, I have a Spartan 445 on order (amazing power vs. cost) and I was thinking of also ordering this model from O-like. I assume it uses the same 1 Watt 445nm Nichia diode as the Arctic/Spartan so the beam is not a "dot" at a distance, correct? Since it seems more configurable and has different optics, I wonder if would burn any better than the portable version.

I see you replaced the power supply, how many amps do you have it set to pull at max load? Also, what is the difference (visibly) between digital and analog modulation? I assume it gives you "smoother" power when adjusting the potentiometer.

Do you think it is even worth me purchasing this module since I already have the Spartan 1 Watt 445nm on order? I am really looking for something with better corrective optics (near TEM00) and more of a continuous duty cycle.

Many thanks in advance!

I am not sure what current it is set to honestly, I adjusted the current until I reached my desired output (1.2W) using my laser power meter

analog modulation is so I can vary the brightness using a 0-5VDC modulation input... this is because this laser is in a laser projector and I need to be able to adjust the brightness of each laser in real time at a very high speed to generate different colors...

this thing can be pretty continuous if you put a fan on it (which I ended up doing) and as far as I know there is no commercially available modules with corrective optics

Thank you for your prompt reply. One last question for you: In the original power supply, what does the blue and white wire connection go to?

From the photos above, it's the plug-in connector closest to the blue potentiometer. Thanks again!

that is for TTL modulation... basically the signal coming in there tells the laser to turn off, but its only 100% or 0% (hence TTL... analog lets you modulate anywhere from 0%-100%)

Default Re: O-Like Now Stocking 445nm

Thanks again for all your help! I am seriously thinking about purchasing this item.

Are you able to adjust the focus down to a single point for burning? This is a deciding factor if I was to purchase the item. I am looking to get this type of power:
YouTube - 1000mW BLUE Laser Burning Stuff! - 445nm @ 1W

Also, the O-Like description says to avoid going over 600mA but you have obviously done this with your own power supply. Do you think the stock power supply will allow me to push the current to around 1000mA or do you think it has a limit of 600mA-800mA or something.

In other words: Is the laser MUCH brighter now that you are using your own power supply?

If this unit does not suit my needs I just may build my own DIY 445 laser.

THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!!

I don't remember how much power I was able to get out of the stock driver but it was not that much... Less than 1w iirc...

Also I did not try focusing it to a point... Like I said before, this thing went into service for a laser projector so I need far field focus...

Your probably better off making your own if you want to play with the focus a lot, it's quite a pain to change the focus on this module
