Re: V1 445nm Laser Diode

Ran a test using 3 element lens and got peak of 5.3w from 7.2w using G lens.

3 element gives a very different beam also. This is about as small as I can get it without lens falling out

That is strange, have you tried another 3 element? It's possible you got a defective lens.

Re: V1 445nm Laser Diode

Thanks @CDBEAM. I was thinking about putting it into an mss-ssw3, which would give me both copper and finned aluminum, but I didn't have a driver already in that and it doesn't take a full module.

That host isn't very big but is very heavy and you can buy extra copper heat-sinks/modules for easy swappage. I have it with a thick chrome plating with a 1.5W 520nm (extremely shiny) with an extra heat-sink. I can say for sure this host pulls the heat from the sink into the host well.
I don't know why but I have never heard what the standards are for deciding on/off cycle. If there's a link I would appreciate it.

Nice. I was going to go with the 1.5 watt green, too, but then this diode appeared. Although, I still have an unused mss-ssw3 that I might still swap it into later. I also coated it with everbrite, so I have polished it once, and not since then, which was about 4 months ago.

Did you have trouble with the heatsink? It's made for a full module, but I had so sand out the inside quite a bit to make it fit most of the way. Took me like 4 hours total. And it inevitably widened the part where the diode sits, so I'm still a little worried about thermal conductivity. Maybe I got a bad one.

Technically I think the duty cycle is how long it takes for the diode to exceed the data sheet operating temperature, usually about 40° C. So you probably should use an IR thermometer pointed at the inside of the module. Or you can just feel the heat and guess. I always err on the low side, but with copper, its longer than you might expect because the heat transfer to your hand is very good.

Edit: starlight, could measure yours at say 5 amps? To see if the power is still increasing. Also, do you have a g7 lens you could test? I'd be curious to see if they actually perform.

Someone mentioned I might have the lens in reversed. I'm trying it again tonight

Edit: I did have the lens in backwards and it now focuses just fine. I can bring the dot down to a small spot no problem. Haven't metered thmeterede lens this way yet but I will for us.

P.S. big Thanks to Pman for seeing my mistake so I was able to correct it.

Hi I'll buy that NDB7A75 for 100.00 if it's in the same ESD or module unopened. With garantee. PM me if you agree to it.

Sorry to go offtopic here, but I just noticed that I live like 15km away from you, I live in Voorhout. Pretty cool to live so close to another member.

Ha, that's pretty cool actually. I didn't know you were so close to me!
Maybe I can see one of your beams from over here :p

I have a 150 LPM and will test it as soon as I get it from DTR,I paid today!
And I have a 5500ma driver coming too. this will be a powerful kit !!!!!!

Will be excited to see builds with this monster start popping up. That kind of power for the price is fantastic. Hope we can measure what it's really capable of soon.

Wow these things are stupidly powerful. DTR is there any possible way to put one into one of your 510 adapters, or would the driver requirements (4.5 amps)/ duty cycle be too horrendous?
