NUBM08 C mag with wavelength comparisons

So I bought an MUBM08 from Jordan to see if I could tell the difference between it and a 450/462 or was it going to be too close to a 450 to notice any difference. I decided this time to not push the diode as I actually wanted 455nm.
The host is a simple C mag that I had sent to Ehg about a year ago for a simple heat-sink and to my surprise the sink was actually a 1/3 deeper than the D mag I had sent. They both fit the same way so it's just how the mags are built.
Here is the mag already sired and ready to go:

Here's the complete module I purchased from Jordan:

Pressed the module in and of course there's some arctic silver thermal grease between the module and sink:

I had purchased a bunch of aluminum and copper sinks recently on Ebay from a US seller and here's a nice chunk of copper glued to the driver with Artic Alumina epoxy:

Kind of got carried away with the epoxy. I was going to use the main sink for the driver but I found out that the tube of the C mag would not allow the driver to sit properly on the sink so that is why I ended up using the copper one and then gluing the copper sink to the main sink partially over the center main sink hole. What you can't see is the driver sink sits just below the edge of the driver so only the copper sink is touching the main sink sinked to the sink:)

I didn't bother shortening the wires between the driver and switch because I had plenty of room for the wires to fit:

Here's the (2) 18490 AW IMR cells with adapters to fit the tube without rattle:

What I ended up using for the focus knob was an extra that went to a CNI unit that has a sliding shutter. The fuzzy piece is just a piece of cloth that I put between the knob and sink so that there is no gap. You don't see it unless you take a pic like this pointing it out:

Yes, I originally mislabeled what the diode was:

That is not a scratch on the head, it's a reflection

What you really care about. As usual, blue tends to show up a bit more violet than actual. It is 5.6W+

Comparison shots between 1.6W 450, 5.6W+ 455, 2.2W 462, 6W 470, 4W+ 473+. Keep in mind it's deceiving how they really look because of the output difference.

I'm happy with the way it turned out as you can see the difference between wavelengths. In other words I recommend buying a 455nm and not pushing it to maintain 455nm.

In the near future I will be making a thread or threads showing the difference between the same wavelength with multiple units. It REALLY matters which bin diode you happen to get and how hard you push them.

If you want to see the recent 07E 473+ D mag build I recently made here's the link. It looks like I finally have all the pics at 800x600:

Nice build Pete!
The most important thing here is that it seems to have the approval of your cat, the master of the house; any laser that passes this test can't be all bad! ;)

BTW, all your 07E thread pics look fine now.

You forgot to also mention he has nice legs:rolleyes:
Nice work Pman, that is some nice sinking. I'm sure the pic's don't due it justice:beer:
I do love seeing that cat of yours!

Thanks guys. The cats name is Marie after the cat in the Aristocats.
As you can see by the pics it doesn't really matter what I show, the 07E 473+ is the real standout. I am VERY curious to see the 488nm if it isn't some scam to lure us to paying huge bucks.
I either hadn't fixed all of the 07E pics or something else mysteriously happened but I did go back through and fixed the half that were still huge. Hopefully they will stay that way.

Pete, other than the pic's from a while ago on the show your builds thread some where very big on that. I haven't had any issue's with any of your other pic's from then on, as they seem fine. Maby my laptop does resize them automaticly? Still though if they were big it just gives me more detail to see and i'm fine with that:)
Its to funny to see "Marie" have to check out investigate and smell any new laser or by that matter anything new. My cat won't smell say a sandwich i'm eating but anything different just like Marie they just have to know whats up:whistle:
Back to a Wavelength question, even though it takes a second for full output does that O7E stay stable at that 473+ from start to finish even though you never run it long at all?

From what I've seen the 473nm+ hits close to 5W on immediate start but you better be watching the Ophir display or you won't see it. It then quickly drops withing seconds down through to just above 4W and I believe that's where it hangs out. This is what Jordan and Lazeerer saw when they tested as far as what I can tell too so it's consistent with a 5.5A or so push. Lazeerer shows it hitting just above 473nm at 5.4A but of course not all diodes are equal. To me it looks like I'm easily hitting higher than 473nm comparing it to my actual 473nm Jetlaser. I'm very interested in comparing it hopefully to a 488nm if that diode is for real that Jordan is investigating.
I almost pulled out my 405nm units to do that wavelength comparison today. I guarantee there will be differences in color between multiples of all my wavelengths.

Man, you can learn so much from the build pics. I love looking at them, thanks. Have all the parts for my first and second build at the house ( a JayRob hot option) and a c6 bundle from Surivial and a m140 from dtr. Still be a couple of weeks before I make it back, so I'm studying all the build pics I can. So thanks again! Super nice build

You are welcome.
I really like build pics too even if they are simple as it a way to encourage people to take on a build themselves. In this particular case you don't have to set the driver and it mostly just involved soldering and there's nothing wrong with any of that. All those pen builds I've made are cool but I can't really say that it was "fun" building them. This build was more fun.

Again, I'm impressed by the focus knob. I just love it! The rest of the build is nice too. Thanks for sharing it. :)

Nice build Pman you really like those c mags, there not cheap either, I would love to see more custom conversion builds like the Coast and Led lenser I did but not many people are posting builds lately. On the 488nm diodes I'm pretty sure Jordan will get them but there is so much interest I'm not sure everyone will have a chance to get one, witch is why I offered to preorder and send some cash, I suppose we can always get them direct from the supplier after this first order happens.
