Did gain any power output from ditching the ball lens?

So do the ones you're selling come decanned or with the ball lens? If they come with the ball lens, can we still use our normal 3-element, G2, etc. glass lenses with it?

Bare diode comes with the ball lens to keep the diode protected. The units in module have it removed for use with a three element lens or G-2. I have not had a chance to compare power with the ball lens.

Well shit. Lol. I guess I'll be sending mine back to you to decan unless I can figure out a way to make it work myself. For some reason I was thinking that what Lazeerer had said was that the ball lens could be used with the normal lenses. I see now that he just said that it was nearly focused. Maybe this is the perfect time for me to purchase a decanning tool.

Yes you can use the ball lens. It is pretty close to focused as is.

I ordered mine intact as soon as I saw you had then up as well, but I may run one with the ball lens intact along with a beam expander
But I was thinking I would need to make a fixture to hold the can/ball in place because I thought it popped off easily
Is that correct? Does the long can with the ball lens pretty much just pop off easily?

I may also run a pair without the can/balls using G2 lenses and cube them together.

Here you go all.

Put it in the vice with just enough grip to hold the diode/can in place. Then Put a little side pressure on the diode and it pops right off.

Don't use a decan tool. I tried it and it doesn't work good and leaves a lip in place and not only that the can is too thick and will dull your blade.

Very nice lazeerer.
I was going to use 2 pairs of pliers, but I see how you get stability and leverage against the vices edge with the nose of your pliers and rock it out preventing damage. +1

Another thing I noticed in lazeerer's helpful video is how he put the case pin dimple to the left and rocked the diode base to the right, this has the back of the wave guide on the left so if it bumps the can on the way out you are less likely to damage the bond wires.

It's worth clicking the youtube and watching this in full screen.

p.s. Mine was a little tough so giving it a little careful twisting action can help break it loose as it's the cans bond that breaks, the can comes off intact.

Mine finally arrived from china today. Looks like I could have just waited an got it from DTR.

unfortunately, it may be a week before I can "play" with it.

Interesting note: The solder or epoxy that held it to the block is very smooth. Like it was possibly removed with heat? I'll post pics when I get a chance.

I have been running the hell out of my decanned NUBM44 and it's doing great, and from what I read these diodes are doing very well open can.
The wavelength and raw power negates any fear of going canless for me, but as it has already been said, you can use the stock Gball lens with the long can if you want to.
I have already slapped some fresh 1.25 inch aluminum on an old host, my new INR batteries are charging and I'm excited to see some bright blue beams.
I think these new diodes are going to be awesome.

Sincerely investigate any of these three short quotes as new concepts and you've taken your first step into a larger world:

"I regard consciousness as fundamental. I regard matter as derivative from consciousness..." - Max Planck. "Everything we call real is made of things that cannot be regarded as real" - Neils Bohr. "What we call physical things and events do not exist independently of subjective experience..." - Deepak Chopra.

Each of these three rabbit holes go deep, ending up in the same place.

It's just a 10 dollar a xml-t6 slide focus body cut down with a chunk of 1.25'' aluminum bar, it's not worthy of a build review.
I'm just excited about these new diodes and ready to drop 1 in anything.

Something I can't find anywhere in this thread is the pin out for the NUBM07E.

Is it the same as the NUBM44 ?

EDIT: Yes, the pin out is the same as the NUBM44.

Looking at the back of the diode if the case pin dimple is on the right then positive is up and neg is down. CORRECT?
I could just gently test it with one of my microprocessor meters, lol.
I think 2 people are laughing at me and the rest are scratching their heads, or you might all have lives.
lets wait for these 2 people to reply back, just for clarification
