Hi,Angelos as you taught me in the past heat sinking the driver properly eliminates a lot of issues with high power diodes i thank you for the education. Many folks don't take this into account when driving these diodes. They are not made for what we all do with them. Ant way i had to elaborate on your comment. And that says it all in a nutshell the SXD with ramp up is the ONLY way to go with these diodes... Your the best there is pal.

Yes RED thank you for the kudos i read many post that Angelos has posted in the past and present . yes it is hitting past 5400W but we must take care of the diodes in the way the drivers are selected and sinked. ESD factors are all in account as well like it or not. ESD is a silent killer and must be addressed properly in all builds not just high power . I really hope this shines some light on our new diodes that are coming around. When i adjust a pot its slow and if its on the edge of what I'm after i won't go over my goal i play it safe. But if you buy a driver from Angelos he will do you right everytime. He's taught me plenty and when he posts on an issue copy and print it like i do for future reference so you won't wnder how to or why. Hope this helps brother

Reply to Lifetime, NICE, looks like you got a freak of a diode there, on page 1 it looked like 5 watts was it, after that it was all spectral shift but no more output. Good looking build, sturdy, I'm a big fan of battle ship sturdy.
Iam surprised you find these pots that sensitive on the top end. There pretty good ~+/-50mA on the very very top end 4.8A+. But if your comparing it to a multi turn pot then yeah these are sensitive.

To make them even less then what they are now it will keep brining the low range current up more and its already at ~900mA. I would have to put in a 3rd range to counter that which there is No room. Or it will increase cost if i get a Nice Multi-turn pot as well as make the driver profile taller.

This is the best fit pot i found that gives best full range without loosing the bottom end.. Trust me if i could have made it better i would.

If any of you guys want a custom request for a multi-turn pot Just PM me and ill make it for you. Iam Only a Pm away. Just let me know Or you can ask DTR or Flaminpyro for the request and they can make it happen.

Maybe ill make a separate option that is specifically designed for more of the top end "Like 3A+ or 4A+" for you guys that want a little more control on the top end Only and dont care about loosing the low end of the current range and uses this other single turn pot i have that should give you easier adjusting and not effect cost or use a Nice Bourns Multi turn pot for those that would like to have even more fine control that wont care about the extra pot height.. Though this will be on request because most need as much of the full current range as possible.

So send me a PM if you would Like that. Id be more then happy to make you a custom request.

Yeah Rich did get a Nice Freak diode.

Thats a Massive sink to so iam sure it keeps the diode cool at around 20-25C for some nice decent runs.

Remember the MAX Current/Max Power with these 07E/44 type diodes really depend on the temp. The lower the temp "even 5C difference" the more power and more current you can give it before the roll back starts. In other words The roll back might start at 5.2A at 37C but at 25C the roll back changes to ~5.6A lets say. Its different from diode to diode but depending on the temp from 20C-40C the roll back goes from 5.8A MAX down to ~5.1A...

I would pay 5 bucks more for the multi turn pot, absolutely.
It's nothing compared to a 150 dollar diode.

Would it still be acceptable knowing this would double the size of the driver?

For many of my applications yes, I would not mind a larger driver.
Just for clarification are you saying twice as wide and twice as long for 400% the area or do you mean 200% the area...or do you mean twice the height? or some of each for basically twice the volume?

Regardless I would accept it at 400% the area for many applications, perhaps as a 24-26mm round or whatever the most popular size for 26650 builds will be as that seems to be where we are headed as our diodes get bigger and need more current.

I don't care about the size either, but most people won't buy anything larger than a pistachio these days.

It wont let me rep you yet but I agree.
5 watt lasers are not going to survive in ink pen size shirt pocket pointers.

This is still my favorite new diode.

Default Re: NUBM07E 465nm 2.9W Diode Test (Hitting 470nm+)

Has anyone tested these with external heating?

I'd like to tap into what this diode can do at high temps, without the danger of running this at 5.5A.

No need to overpower it if I can just cook it in a labby instead.

If not, I'll roll the dice on my own. Simply felt like plugging the question early on.

If you read back through the post you will see Cyparagon has already tested these and temp will not cause spectral shift, current drives spectral shift.

As for heat they make plenty on their own, but again, spectral shift is not driven by heat.

Read pages 1-6 and 10-15. Terrific.

Lazeerer were you going to post those proper driver heat-sinking pics? Thanks
I ask because I have the full Monty coming from Jordan this week with external driver.

Default Re: NUBM07E 465nm 2.9W Diode Test (Hitting 470nm+)

I just got my 465nm full copper module with the SXD driver (external) and G-2 lens and was wondering if others have seen this.
I let it warm up before testing to room temp which was 74.3F and was a bit surprised at the "cold-start" output. I tried this 3 times (all back to room temp) and the first 2 times it almost hit 6W and the last time hit just over 6W before it starts to drop.
This was done with my Variable DC power supply at 7.4V with a Fluke 381 clamp meter showing 4.8A to diode. I only had it on for a few seconds each time as I had not put heat-sinks on the driver or placed the module in anything yet. It was intended to be a quick OK it's working fine check.
My Ophir reads correct for other units I have up to 3.5W (and yes the batteries are good) and I believe it is reading correctly as I don't see any deviation reading a 5mW unit either.
Anyways, I was quite surprised at seeing a peak over 6W. Haven't decided what I'm going to put it in although I have a few choices ready to go.
I've had some bad luck lately with diodes being under-spec from some sources (not DTR) so it looks like things worked out well this time although power wasn't what I was after. It is obviously set high for wavelength as I already own a couple 462 (464nm) 2.2W and to me there's no point in running a 465nm.
Most know that I don't really use my lasers anyways and although they are heat-sinked well I also only run them for a very short time. The longest being when I'm trying to take a pic.
Will say this is my first full copper module and me likes. The module gets warm very quickly and obviously works very well.

Hi Pman,
This is my 465nm with external SXD with ramp up driver set to 5.0A. Please note the cells weren't fully charged only about 3/4's. This diode hits the 470.16 WL mark it was specter. Here is a few pics of the build and heat sinking.

I only use full copper modules unless I absolutely can't. They seem to provide much better thermal transfer, and they allow me to pull the module out a little in some of my builds to provide easier access to the focus adapter while losing only negligible amounts of heat dissipation.

What type of camera do you use? Ive gotta get something that will take accurate pictures of blues. All of mine look purple. These are both NUBM07E beam shots:
