These diodes are the sh!t! I had a chance to do a quick test. With the stock "Gball" lens and a set of 6X cylinders I am getting ~4X5mm after the cylinders and about .65mRad in the slow axis. The focus of the "Gball" lens is really pretty good and can be cleaned up with the cylinder expander focus. I couldn't find a 9V battery around for my higher power meter so I used my 2W ophir. At 1A I'm seeing 900mW, and 1.72A hit the 2W max of the meter. So far looks pretty good compared what others are seeing power wise. I will get some spectro readings when I get a chance. At this point I see no reason not to use the factory lens if you plan on using correction optics.

Any chance of you uploading some pics of the corrected beam profile and set up. I would love to see how you accomplished this it sounds amazing!

Holy hell I go away from this place for a bit and this pops up. This is what happens when you buy a 473nm labby. :)

Atleast 589nm is safe hehe.

Here are some crappy cell pics. Sorry this is the best my phone could do. The spot shot is at 43feet.

This wavelength is awesome, it makes 445 turn from blue to purple.
You think 445 is blue until you see the 465 next to it, then it magically turns 445 from blue to purple, lol.
I know it's my tiny brain playing tricks on me, it's like slowing down form 90 to 55 and it feels like you could get out and walk faster.

No apology necessary! Looks absolutely amazing to see that wavelength in such a nice beam. I just hope someday I'll get around to making a nice corrected handheld with this diode so I can see that in person.

Way to go LS !!!...." You did it !!! You get the job...You graduate " hahahahahaha

THIS is the news I have been waiting for.....as I wait for my diode to arrive....!!!!!!!!!!!! Your optical set up will be almost identical to mine !!! I will use the exact same 6X Cylindrical lenses set....but....I have ordered a de-canned NUBM07E and press fit into a CU module end !!!....and I will throw a G2 on for collimation....so....this will be the same as the....er....ah...." Ballaspherical " stock lens....HAHAHA....Opps....Tooo many quotation marks....Oh, the shame !!

Now....Take a gander over in the experimental area....see the Sky Blue Ramjet project thread....and this...is one way this NUBM07E will be given a set of optics to get this beam hammered into shape !!!

Think about it......High power, much improved luminesce at the 470 nm line, relative low cost for the LD....and now we know ....the beam can be tamed...and corrected into a good shape....again....not a perfect round shape....but...not a stink'in bar !!!

These diodes are indeed...the SH1T !!!! :eg::eg::eg: It is Christmas in August !!!

I don't think I've ever been as excited for a diode to arrive as I'm right now. Have a nice Mace of Doom host waiting to have the diode built in it.

He DTR said in an earlier post that he has these with the driver attached to the diode so I expect at 3.5 amps they will be ok for short duty cycles.

Anyway I ordered a diode as soon as he had them up before the mounted option was available so I ordered a raw diode, it just hit my mailbox this afternoon.

The can will come off but my old vise jaws have a bit more slack than I remembered and it put up a bit of a tussle but I won.

I gave it a 1/4 amp on the lab supply to see it light and it survived the install so it's game on. :)

The little lens is slightly convex at the output and slightly concave on the input. Its about 3/16 of an inch thick and only 1/4 inch wide.

The main thing is that it appears to be symmetrical so I don't think it could possibly do any beam shaping.

Man, I just don't feel comfortable with pushing anything anywhere near 4 watts without that extra full copper back half. Since I've been monitoring case temp, I've seen what a significant role it plays in dissipating the heat. I just don't even want to chance it with a $150 diode. But it very well may be able to take it just fine. I guess we will see! Are you mounting the driver straight to the diode?

Haha I read all of your posts in the voice of Doc from Back to the Future. I love it. I remember reading someone giving you crap about it. Someone who doesn't like to have fun, apparently. Lol.

So where did you guys get your 6x cylindrical lenses? I think I want to play around with some myself.

OOOooooo....Ooooooo..." Lite Fuse and Run " !!! I do not know who invented Cylindrical lenses....but....see this link

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cylindrical_lens

Some Optical Engineer was talking about the C-Lens....back in 1943....even B4 I was born !!!

Two current sources for 4X and 3.4 X are Laser Show Parts and OPT lasers.

The 6X Cylindrical lenses...several are working on a source....stand by !!!

Please feel free to correct my grammar at any time.... Seems I have a problem with using TOOoooo much punctuation !!! This condition is a direct result of wearing the Doc Brown head gear whilst doing optical experiments.... Prof. Hathaway sez..." Up the voltage "....Whatever !!! I will try to contain this Turrets like condition....but....It's my style !!!!!!!

My results agree with LS and Lazereer....See pic's !!! This LD is Tamed

The 6X Cylindrical work like a champ !! Divergence is less than 1.0 Mrad

NOW.......These lessons learned will be applied to the Sky Blue Ramjet project !!! And you will see one example of how we can have it all !!!.....in a Hand Held format !!

The second pic / beamshot shows a nice tight Sky Blue needle....which almost looks like a Photoshop job....but ...it is not !!
Terrawatt is impressed !!

Great Results.. Forgot to post my stuff here.:) I have not had a chance yet to test the stock lens with some C-lens since i got my array's in but I have to try it this weekend. Looks interesting. Bob sent me some of his 6x C-lenses and they are great.:) Iam curious what results i can get with the stock lens. You do loose some Power with the stock lenses though. its not much.

But iam liking what iam seeing with the G-lens DTR Sells.:)

I did just a quick test and here is the quick setup. This weekend i will do more beam correction testing as ill have a little more time on my hands to set something up better then this,
12343_zpsxapfygwn.jpg

The First C-lens in placed 3" in front of the Diode.

Here is what iam getting with this setup. Please note that this was a Quick test so alignment was not 100% perfect, So expect slightly better results then these numbers once i get it aligned perfectly.(Also note this might not be the best distance away from the diode for correction so that might play effect too in better results.)

6mm x 3.1mm at 28' with the 4mm China G-lens.

7.5mm x 2.5mm at 28' Using a 3.1mm FL lens.

The dots can be very easy spatial filtered too and it appears you wont be loosing any/much power at all to clean it up.

I dont have any 2mm FL lenses but i have a 1.5mm FL lens. Iam not sure though it can focus that close because the diodes die mount might extend to far out for it to focus. Ill check though.

CDBEAM777 did you get the 2mm FL lens in from dave yet.?

I will experiment placing the C-lenses at different lengths away from the diode itself as i know that also plays a part on beam size and also play around with some other lenses and C-lens i have to see if i can get any better results then iam seeing now.

None the less iam very happy with how the results are going.

No.....I do not have my 2mm EFL from LSP yet...ETA 2 weeks,,,,unless I rip one outa the Dragon Build. In my Test Bed set-up..I am using the G2 lens....for now !The 2mm lens is about $ 37 USD....so.. not too cheap....but...being so small....they are likely a PITA to manufacture !!

At 28'...(about 7.7M)....I measure the Farfield geometry at 7.9mm x 3.0mm....but...note the distance between the first lens and the collimation lens is 10mm !! The shorter one has this distance....will increase divergence in the Farfield !!
This distance is set by design...for the HSOP unit in the Sky Blue Ramjet project only has a total length of 81mm.....which in turn limits the space available for the C-Lens placement !

Now....if I wanted to extend the front section on the HSOP....well then....I would get lower divergence numbers !! I do not want to do this !!! :(:(

I will likely try the 2mm EFL lens and see if I can get the divergence lower in this fashion. Optics R Fun :eg::eg::tinfoil::tinfoil:

OK....the latest and greatest....Forget about the 2mm EFL Collimation lens from LSP....Best results I could get...about 9.95mm at 28' And....the 2 mm lens also introduces spill shadow...above and below the main beam at the Farfield....A No Go !

OK.... I did some real fine tuning of the placement of the 6X Cylindrical lenses...see the attached pic 1...One cannot rush this step !!! Also see the pic 2 attached showing the digital calipers....measuring the burn mark on a white board at 28 ' ( 8.534 M)....Hmmmm....what a coincidence !!! 7.77 mm wide....SO...the beam leaves it's own footprint ! haha ...and height is about 3 mm.

Using the http://www.pseudonomen.com/lasers/calculators/mRadCalculator.html calculator...with a nearfield at 2mm...and a Farfield at 7.77 mm wide ( 8.534M distance ).........the divergence comes out to..... 0.676 mRad....This is very tight...Very tight indeed !

So....I do not know why the 2 mm EFL lens did not do better....and....honestly....I do not give a Coherent Rat's Ass. IMNSHO....this is the best we can do....for now !!!

Watch the build progress over at the Sky Blue Ramjet thread over in the Experimental area !! You will see ...one of the first attempts to correct this beam....in a Hand Held unit !! :pop::pop::pop::pop:

Note: Combiners still rule...but ARCB (Aspect Ratio Corrected Beam's ) are also a beautiful thing ! ... Hammer'in the beam ....To the best it can be....as close to perfect as the Laws of Optics...will allow !! That is the goal !!!

Good news I will be able to have a good option with the driver in the back of the module. Just built one and with the new SXD it ran set to 3.5A for 120 seconds before the temp sensor in the driver went off. I will also have an option with the driver external for those that want to push the driver harder or sink the driver for longer duty cycles but this also means a 510 threaded 22mm module will be available.

holy santa clause shit! lolol when will they be available?
