I am not a fan of side buttons....

And I agree that the Atlantis host is kind of boring compared to the arctic Spyder.

I still think that I might get a Wicked Laser Arctic in a few months (when the orders are caught up and if they still have them)


But it is good that there is another company selling these....

I just wish Wicked Lasers glasses were Certified like Nova lasers.... :yabbmad:

The CR123s are a dealbreaker for me. The thing I like about the Spyder (other than the way it looks :p) is the fact that it uses an 18650.
Which I have assloads of.

If it takes an 18650, then I'm totally getting this instead. Ze goggles! Zey DO something!

But, like a noob, I will post first and search later.

I still await the day someone will make a 445nm 1W laser in a sonic screwdriver host...

This is interesting for me:

WL Spyder: 228mm x 35.8mm
NL Atlantis: 199mm X 23mm


Also for $40 extra (a total of $187+$40 = $227) you can buy certified googles, and this is not a minor detail.

As NL website says:

"Always use ANSI and CE Certified laser safety eyewear!
All laser safety goggles sold by Novalasers are MADE IN USA, are ANSI and CE certified."

I think it`s time to wait some weeks until the reviews start going on, so there will be the best time to buy.

They get the hosts from CNI. CNI doesn't produce 445nm diodes. Besides you can bet that a >500mW 445nm laser will cost more than 2 bills if it came from CNI.

I like that host better too. I like it for it's safety features and that it looks like a serious instrument rather than a novelty or a toy. They must have machined a special mount for the diode because normally that is a DPSS host.

The Atlantis measures 23mm x 199 mm or 0.9 in x 7.8 in

The human eye response is much lower in the blue wavelengths than the green.
For photopic vison (non dark adapted vision) the 532nm green is ~17x brighter than 445nm blue for a given output power, so 1 Watt of 445nm would be about as bright as 60mw of 532nm green. For Scotopic vision (when your eyes are dark adapted; there is a chemical change in the eye after ~15-20 minutes of complete darkness, the resonse shifts to the left somewhat and then 532nm will only be ~4x brighter than 445nm, so 1000mw of 445nm would be equal in visual brightness to ~250mw of 532nm green.

Noting that these 445nm portables being offered by WL and Nova
will be putting out near their max output... and by what I've read...
they will be running HOT...

I would prefer a larger mass and more surface area offered by the
WL Spyder III for added heat dissipation rather than a smooth
shiny surface of the Nova Atlantis...

I have a spyder 3 pro 532 100mw it averages 180ish really a sweet host has battery meter feels heavy i must get a arctic

I fully agree with Jerry on this one. Maybe Nova should offer these in 500mW or a little less.

@Jerry, I think you have 405nm in your sig twice :eek:

Hmm, NOVAlasers also claims good specs (2 mrad @ 1.5 mm) for the laser. Perhaps the diode is better than we give credit for.
