Not sure why dot looks dimmer and different

I finished a 1watt 445 laser, and it worked fine all day, but then the dot was about half the brightness, no longer burns, and the unfocused dot looks ramdom, like a reflection off water rather than the ordered lines I saw before. Also, a dim ring appeared around the dot. After replacing the batteries the problem presists.

We need more info about the driver. What was the settings, voltage, current etc.
From the description of the laser it looks like the diode turns into zombie.

I don't know about this driver. How does the dot looks like without the lens ? It should looks like this.

It used to look just like that. Unfocused it looks about the same as in the first picture, with random blotches of light rather than lines

Looks like the diode has some kind of damage. I am not sure what.
1.1A from the driver shouldn't be a problem. The 445nm diode can handle that easily.

THis sounds like something got burnt onto the diode window.

First can you take a picture of the diode window in macro mode or s close s you can get to the die as clear s possible. Just to see if there is anything burnt on the window.

Doing this first is best before turning it back on, as if it is damaged you dont want to damage it even more.

But most likely if you burnt something on the window your not going to be ble to clean it off and your going to half to de can the diode to save it.

^^^Once you post that nd if we cannot see anything then if you can take a picture with out the lens on projecting the light on the wall just like blord did in post #5.?

I would like to see what that looks like to determine if that is the cause.

I bought the exact same driver, and manage to get a good lasing for about 1 second. Then it goes all messed up, i thought i burned the diode.

But trying again and again i can always get the one second of laser before it fails.

Cannot help you there, i ended up buying another driver and diode. I still have the other diode and driver and am sure i will return to investigate it some day. Maybe.

You guys should stop buying crappy drivers to use on 45 dollar diodes :/

What lens are you using?

That first picture looks like the lens may have melted. And if it got on the diode window that'd explain picture #2

The diode is inan aixiz lens module, and picture 2 looks just like it does with no lens but with the diode stiill in the aixiz module . I dont have a real camera othet than my phone, so i cant get a good picture ofthe diode, but i cantt see any evedence that the lens melted onto the diode. I may be able to use a friends camera and post images of the diode later.

Also, the first image does not show that there are many concentric circles, many very dim, ranging from 5 to 30 degrees away from the focal point

I dint see the pictures you had up already. it looks like to me something got burnt on the window.

You can try to clean it but it might make it worse. However the state that its in right now if you keep turning it on the way it is you going to kill it regardless so its worth a try.

However if its not the diode window and when done cleaning the diode window it still appears the exact same then either its un cleanable and needs to be DE canned or the diode is damaged and has lost efficiency 'Zombied'.

Use alcohol "Highest strength you can get" and get some Q-tips.

Put a little alcohol on the Q-Tip and dab it on a paper towel to remove an extra alcohol that got on the Q-tip, Then use the twist pull method when cleaning the window.

In other words put the Q-tip on the diode window and ith very light pressure turn turn turn then right before you stop turning pull up.

Then take a dry Q-tip and do the same to dry the diode.

See if this cleans your issue up.

Are you using the lens that come with the Aixiz model, I think for 1w 445 you have to get a different lens.
