either way it melted through and killed it so normal or not that still doesn't change the fact that it killed it. As for the not running above 1W if its advertised as a 1.5W diode and I'm running it at 1W it should last longer then 4 hours. plus it was properly heat sinked and under driven with a glass lens too so its not like i wasn't doing things right that's why i wasn't happy with the product.

Still it should be glass .. you can't burn through glass easily. Color change in coating is normal. Hole of course not .. that would be impossible. Would be cool to make some super macro shots of the diode .. but I understand those are hard to obtain.

BennyF, Why don't you just email DangLasers and tell them what happened. I bet you will have a new one "free" in less than a week! It's not about the name of a business that is important or as jakeGT implies, "fishy", but about reputation. Dang happens to be the first 4 letters of the word Danger. That's where it came from. Have you read the feedbax on eBay? Best place to buy diodes and modules and service. All dang diodes are A140's. None are 2000 lumen 130's. All my diodes are from dang. Like i told they guy at Danglasers.com I'm sure it has nothing to do with the company or the guy that runs it it was probably just a defective diode. those things happen and we all know how not cheap a 445 is and to have it go out within a matter of a few hours would make anyone angry. I am actually very happy with how they are handling this situation. they are sending me a new diode for free so i can't complain. I really think the foundation of a good company is great customer service and that's what i'm getting so thank you Danglasers.com.

Since they are all pretty much the same diodes, marketing them as 1.5 watts is somewhat stupid. Surely some of them can produce that amount of power, but don't count on long life when running them that hard.
