Hello,

I recently purchased a 1.4 watt 445nm laser with a Njg-18 driver and I am using a single Ultrafire 18650 3000mah lithium-ion protected battery to power it. It was designed to cycle through the following modes: high power, low power, strobe and sos. The first two cycles work fine, but beyond that, there appear to be 3 extra modes where there is a single, momentary pulse only.

Enclosed is a video for reference (I apologize about the quality of the 3gp file)

I am working with the seller on trying to figure this one out, but have only discovered that he was using unprotected 18650 cells. Can anyone else verify that this may be the cause of the missing modes? Also, can anyone recommend a safe to use unprotected 18650 battery / words of wisdom? Thank you!

I believe others have experienced the same issues with protected cells. These drivers do pull a lot of current. You might want to try a good unprotected Sanyo cell.;)

I use unprotected Samsung 2600mah 18650 Li-ions with all my NJG-18 builds. I've never had a problem. I believe DTR has a point.

I am glad you got that beautiful build working.

So the Ultrafire 18650 3000mah lithium-ion protected battery was the culprit.

Do you think it was the ^#`! protection circuit board causing the problem ?
