It's just a regular 1W rated 445nm diode, overdriven.

Ah, I see. how many amps? Because mine probably died before it hit 2A, which is not exactly 2W yet.

But since you're here, how high can you drive the 445s? is 1.5 A still safe?

It's odd, people have gotten differing results, 1.5A is kind of high but not impossible I don't think.

Ah okay. My initial plan was to drive the diode at 1.5A max, but after I killed my diode by accident, I'm not sure its such a good current to be driving it at lol. I don't have laser wattage measuring equipment but, basically I just wanted to drive it enough to exceed 1W instead of just hanging just under 1W.

Sorry, I think I hijacked the thread. maybeI should start one.

A few people have been using 2 flexdrive V5's driven at 900a each with a g1-405 lens to get 2W(like the one I just bought)

The problem with running a flex at 1.5a is not that the diode gets hot...but the Flexdrive gets to hot, and usually users do not heatsink the driver.

A flexdrive v5 driven at 1.5a should have a very short duty cycle.

Plus you may not want to use a A-130 if your going to try and get to that intensity.

if your not building a portable, or happy with a box portable, a flexmod P3 will happily supply enough current to power 2 of these diodes. Put them in a box, combine them with a PBS and you could safely have 3 watts of beam, more if you push the diodes. :)

The hard part for us laser show types is finding enough red. Blue and green are fairly cheap to get... red, at a decent wavelength and beam profile, not so easy :p
