These newfangled 445nm diodes have forced me and my wallet to come out of seclusion and slap together a new laser. Wow, this thing is bright. It puts my sad little ~200mW LPC to shame. I actually accidentally *burned* my hand with this thing. Seriously - it's blistered and everything. Here are some obligatory zapping videos:

It cuts a matchstick in half:

..And lights a (white) match in about 200 milliseconds:

Specs:
A-140 Nichia 445nm diode @ 1.25A
405-445 glass lens
Milled aluminum heatsink
Heatsinked LM317-based driver

I'm guessing (hoping) the output is around 1W.

I didn't check nichia's website, but I really don't think it is nichia branded, as the famous projector diodes are really unexpensive compared to nichia ones... lol

A-140 = projector brand

Yep, but I'm too cheap to buy 18650s. Anyway, I rarely use these things for more than a few seconds at a time.
