Just don't know HOW COULD it happen, I just leaved my diode on an aixiz module and on his copper heatsink on a locked box on my table, in foam, for something like 2~3 days. before that, it worked fine on a stabilized PSU (very filtered, not the problem FWI), I was using it like that, used it 20~25 days like this EVERYDAY. when I let it rest 2 or 3 days, I tried it, and it was with 2 modes completly burnt, 1 mode led'd and 2 modes outputting ~0.1mW (I think).

when I opened the box, it was just like I left it, but does not work anymore, tried with many things, even a cellphone battery but all PSU's give the same result: an 40$ led, that is going to the trash. I do not have money to get another, so I'm off hobbing with 445 for a long time.

What could cause the damage?

Confirmed: 4.2v at 300ma. but it just got the same voltage and current, because I didn't touched the button for 25 continuous days :)

edit: it still is 4.2v at 300ma ATM.

It can be damaged from ESD, from too much heat, from an initial current spike, from backreflection ..... there's too much ways for damage an LD, for try to guess ..... the only way for know this for sure, was to have some instruments connected to it when it stopped to work, sorry .....

ESD? ha hell. I pulled the wires out of the foam when unpacking it (from the locked box) and I THINK I felt a itch on my finger.. I can't believe.
is it possible? lets say.. THIS HAPPENED BEFORE?

Lots of people damage diode due to esd.

yeah what I'm gonna do now? any help? I know that diodes aren't repairable but.. I was going to sell it assembled to pay its cost (60$). It may not look that much but I live in Brazil, thats R$110. enough to buy MANY medicine AND food here (was going to sell the assembled unit for ~120$, have buyer already).
The conclusion is: my money just got screwed?

Sorry to say it but your out a $40 diode now.

hope to sell the coated lenses at least, to cover some of the damage. thanks for all help udanis and HIMNL9.

I've always purchased mine from Daguin here. They're more expensive but I know they're handled and packaged properly.

405-g-1? You could still sell that for a respectable about, or you could aways turn down the current and put a cheap phr in it.

WLHostage: I bought mine from kiyoukan. It came in the aixiz module + lenses + wires soldered (because of this, it costed 60$). very well packaged too.

udanis: nope, aixiz coated lenses. the shipping to USA and elsewhere costs ~20$ here, it is not worth selling internationally. Hope the admin would let me post in portuguese somewhere in the forum, or I will sell it somewhere else.

all: I'm just sad, gonna offer computer fixings at my neighboorhood. I'll be online if anyone replies, thanks all again.

If it makes you feel any better I murdered my first Diode as well before ever running it lol. Had it placed into an Aixis module, after getting it I realized I had ordered a copper module for my host and really just needed the bare diode outside a module. So I attempted to push it out of the module breaking the glass almost instantly.

Maybe buy a cheap blu-ray. Then you can reuse the driver, host, lens, well, everything. It's not unheard of to kill diodes by running them off of temporary connections to power supplies. Just make sure next time that all your connections are as solid as possible, and that there are precautions to account for any possible startup spikes that the PSU puts out.
