Hello, everyone, some members asked me to update my project statue. I have some pictures and a video to show you. The CNC is not working for now, I tested the laser and the y-axis; I found that the power supply I have can't provide the needed current for the stepper each stepper required 2A, I bought 500 watt power supply. I should receive it by Monday. The X-axis is missing as there is no enough power :)

you should consider adding a fan to blow the smoke away from the lens. You will ruin your lens sooner or later once it gets covered in soot.

I clean the lens every day. This in not my primary length, I have g2 lens. I can't add fan for now as the power supply will will get fried 😃. My pc got 8 fans, I will take one. It was on my plan also, I will put the whole machine in the garage so all fumes and smoke won't hurt me.

Why did you decide to use 445 instead of CO2? CO2 is so much more powerful. Was it just based on budget restrictions?

CO2 is also very large installation, compared to a diode setup, requires very expensive and dangerous power supply, is far more fragile, and must be kept stationary while the mirrors move, which cannot be normal front mirrors but gold ones (or one of rare compounds that actually reflect 10600 nm), and finally, far more expensive.

All said and done, CO2 is probably far more useful for cutting purposes. Engraving is best done with far lower-powered diodes.

Also, somebody correct me on this, but since the engraving is done in "scanning" pattern, you can't actually switch the CO2 laser fast enough, only diodes have sufficiently fast switching speeds, right?

Yes, it's based on the budget, space, and safety of the lasers, a co2 laser will need an expensive and industrial glasses, unlike, 2W 445 nm, a $ 30 goggles will do the job.It depend on the application, you are using the laser in, for example, if you create a laser pointer with 445 nm diode at this power, you definitely need to buy a high quality goggles like aixiz goggles. Note, I tested my $ 30 goggles and I found that it's good for my application; however, I do not recommend it, Eagle pro is tested and certified and costs only 41 dollars :yh:

CO2 lasers can be switched on and off, at lower frequency. It's not good to do that. one of my friends designed a CO2 laser cutter machine and he switched the laser tube ON and OFF using a power transistor as a switch, he did not care about the health of the machine, he only wants to graduate:D

CO2 lasers need ~30kV to start. There is no power transistor in existence that can handle 30kV.

Part of me thinks you mean switching the TTL/enable high or low, but that would not warrant the use of a power transistor, so you've misunderstood his project in some other way.

False.

It's a cold cathode discharge tube. Like all cold cathode discharge tubes, the health/life of the tube is not affected by power cycles.

60W != 60V ... All CO2 lasers need a starting voltage much higher than any power transistor can handle. If you actually read the link you gave, you'll see that PSU has a max output voltage of 35kV!

Second, some types of power transistor can handle 30 kv and more for example, you can connect transistors together to handle any power you want. watch this transistor can handle 1kv connecting 30 of this transistors together will handle 30 kv .IXYS IXFH12N100 MOSFET N CH 1KV 12A to 247AD Transistor Box 3S | eBay

You can't put transistors in series for higher voltage handling. Please at least give correct information before you try correcting someone else.

Why? It's going to have a very large dot even when focused, and won't cut light materials (like white paper) as well as your 2W .. and $500 is far too much for that.
