Hey guys!

A thread just to show my new and best (im in love for this laser) laser in my modest collection

So I'm doing an ERASMUS year in Germany. I started ordering everything to Portugal in November and was hoping that everything would be there when i got back for Christmas. I'm so glad i ordered from DX first...it was the last to arrive in the middle of december...ive had some things from DX shipped before, and they never took more than 1 week and a half to get to my doorstep...but this time it took 1 month and about 1 week

As i arrived home for Christmas, i had this pleasant view in my desk:

(Actually im going to change this pic as it has my adress...dunno i just guess i shouldnt post it like this in the internet)

i was ready to start soldering!! :D

So i set the flexdrive i had from my PHR build that i screwed to around 1A, and got it inside the host...i was having problems with the wires that i had that were too thick to be inside the pill, but...

But i was dumb! i had only slept 3h in 2 and a half days...as i was trying to get it to lase, i stupidily used my new, fully charged 10440s in parallel before modding the battery holder...as i just didnt think properly and thought it would be ok...and i had 3 AAAs right next to me :banghead:

So i ordered a new flexdrive from DrLava already set at 1A...and i thought i would have it before leaving to Germany...which didnt happen...and so i had to wait for more 1 month and 1 week to have it to arrive to Portugal and then here in Germany after it being in my parents possession for a few days.

Today morning i asked my flatmate to use his soldering stuff...he wasnt here for the weekend and ive only moved here 2 weeks ago and my confidence with him still isnt enough to go around his stuff without him being around.

Soldering time!!

Oh it was great...and easy to do with the new wire i had...i was just fearing it wouldnt bear with the current...but its doing fine i guess:

Flexdrive in place...lets go to diode

everything ready for first lasing test...OMG heart beating very fast...

IT LASES!

i just get everything in place getting the rest of the flashlight together and shove batteries in (still hadnt modified the battery holder and was using 3 AAAs...not a good idea...then i modded it and its much better now with 3 10440s) change to Aixis glass lenses. Glasses on->check! Lets lase!

now some beamshots and the unit...i really like the weight of it...the end clicky would be better in the side...my hands are a bit big and my thumb tendon is hurting a bit now..

I'm i awe with the color of the laser...by the descriptions i had read about this lasers saying the dot was blue but the beam was purple/violet...this is not true to me...maybe i have a "freak", maybe its just how i perceive it, maybe i just seen my 405nm too much...this is so damn blue...id call it deep-skyblue.

I've already got a hole on my texas instruments calculator's lid and engraved my computer with a laser warning sign

im really happy with this laser because of the color and the beam visibility...outside at night its just a beast!

Only bad part is the beam profile...its M^2 is what?? not near 1...its so sad that a good collimation without lots of optics isnt achievable :( I'm really in love for the color...ive always wanted a cyan laser, and my next project (maybe only in a few years) is going to be a RGB laser, maybe tuneable.

Big props (that sounded gangsta cheat!) to Jayrob for the heatsink and his fast delivery. Daguin for this wonderful diode. Now DX no one cares and great speed and good packaging from Radiant for the googles (i also found out my snowboarding googles are UV protection coated and have a much higher OD at this wavelength than theirs...and when it comes to my 405...nothing gets through...i have a hard time seeing the dot...its coated until 400nm)

Great laser, really enjoyed doing it, and the whole 2 months and a half of waiting was really worth it to see this majestic beam...from the charts I've seen i must estimate it is outputing between 800mW to 950mW!
Just recharging batts for more buring tomorrow!:gun::eg:

thanks for reading!

BTW! Could anyone give me advice regarding which 18650s i should buy?? In DX??

I'm going to mod the bat holder...dunno if i charged the bats too early but they start blinking faster now than before...i cant get lasing action for more than 20~30 secs!

thanks
