Good job nice breath of fresh air... I'm not clear how you ran the fan and the diode?
I know that if you were to use the flex V5 at 1.4A and the fan (off the driver or not) you would be hard pressed to get any RPM out of the fan. I see you are using a AA for the fan but I don't see how you ran all of it at once?

Just trying to put it together in my head... still a bit of genuine craftsmanship

Superb build!

I especially like the driver mounting solution, with the extended flat section as part of the module.

It looks really neat and tidy.

I also like the chunky threads, no chance of those wearing loose.

If you would do custom jobs, I'd order one for sure. I'd love something like this minus the active cooling.

Anyone want to give this "host" a name ? Gonna need one When they go for sale.

As for a name, how about "Aeolus", the name of the Greek god of winds?

Not very original, but new to me as far as laser hosts are concerned.

Re: My black friday build

You should make a similar one with a larger battery for decent run times.

the fan probably does the main thing I want a hand held laser to do

well it makes the temp better thats good

but it probably also makes a really cool wiring sound - I want my laser to go "verrrrrrrrrrrr" while its on because it makes it sound really powerful, lol

[Hints to ask the OP to make one with a soundboard too!]

Yeah .. noiselessness sucks. Is there some small circuit I could buy which would play some sound ? There must be something like that for toys.

just something that sounds sorta like a light saber but not the same because thats not needed - something that sounds like high voltage humming or something like that

it will convince people how powerful it is if it makes sounds - even those laser pointers on guns that cops have in movies and TV shows make sounds when they turn them on

Here is how it sounds...I think I will change the blade/defuser so it has a "turbine whistle" like a jet engine.

^ Easy ..... whistle / siren sound is made from the blades "cutting" the air, so if you make the rotor in the way that the end of the blades pass very near the borders of the air out slits, and with sharp edges (and if the speed is enough), you increase the noise ..... ;)

Somebody else with access to Mazaks? I thought I was the only one!

Those parts look sick! Was that all done in Mazatrol or are you using some sort of CAM package? I don't have the patience to program Mazatrol programs like that, and I don't know enough about g-code to write my own posts (I've got access to Mastercam 9, but no post.)

I agree with everyone else, if you build them they will sell...

I am envious. Will take you up on your offer in your sig some day but not just yet lol.
What about custom panels/enclosures for power supplies do you do those? :D

yea the tail cap switch is great looking - maybe you could put one of those round keys there that are used on the arctic lasers and other commercially available lasers because of FDA rules

also, I know this is expensive but get a CO2 laser engraver - I would pay upwards of $25-50 or more to have my laser host engraved with the correct warning info - you need one that can do curves surfaces and that can cut things like titanium, or similar hard metals and I would send you my top of my lasers to engrave them
