Default My 445nm Laser Build(first tests)

I just purchased a 1 watt 445nm projector diode and an aixiz laser housing with glass lens, i assembled it and hooked it to a .5amp 5 volt usb charger, and the results were impressive! well impressive for me, this is the first time i had a laser this powerful, it should be at around half watt+ output input voltage was measured at 3.97 volts and current at .57 amps, here are some pictures:

The last picture is without the lens, i noticed the dark smudge when focusing it and i dont think it was there when i recieved the diode, has anyone seen anything similar? is my diode damaged? i never let the diode get too hot, and the current and voltage measured during operation: 0.57 amps and 3.97 volts

Looks like a piece of dust on the diode window. Try using a can of air to blow it out. Don't blow with your mouth, it could cause more problems.

Default Re: My 445nm Laser Build(first tests)

I just solved the smudge problem, it was a piece of dirt or something, so after reading some threads about drivers, I think I made a mistake by purchasing a Chinese eBay driver, before hooking it to the diode I am going to take some measurements to make sure the voltage and current are in acceptable ranges, has anybody here used any cheap Chinese drivers?

The G2 will give the most output power. A 3-element lens is cheaper and has a better looking beam/spot at cost of power.

Default Re: My 445nm Laser Build(first tests)

I received my driver yesterday and got it all set up, while adjusting the pot on the driver and measuring current flowing through the diode the most i was able to measure was .8 amps, fairly close to the 1 watt output, driver and diode module heat up fast, and I see no easy way of cooling the driver, the diode module will be mounted in a machined host I'm going to make myself

there are also pretty good knockoffs of the g lens. using the search function you should be able to see our Group Buys and such. There is one currently shipping out lenses from TheJoker right now, not sure if there are any extras. Im getting a few so let me know if you need one.

From his quick description it sounds like he got it from the guy on ebay who sends out A240 diodes. They are pretty much a140s.

How much for the lens? And I purchased the diode from hightechdealz.com he said it was from a Casio projector, I also have another m140 on its way, I have decided to ditch the linear regulated driver due to the heat and switch to a buck converter driver, powering it by 2 rechargeable 123 lithium batteries

Hey man! I just built my first high-powered laser about 1 week ago. It's 445nm just like your's except it is about 2.2 watts and I have a G2 lens for more burning power. You said you were having problems cooling it, so click on my sig to see my video I posted. Hopefully that helps as far as cooling goes! I just used a huge aluminum block as a heatsink (a bit overkill but it never even gets warm, you don't need anything near that big). Also, the G2 lens from DTR will work with your Aixiz module, assuming you have the 12mm. Cheers!

I have since mounted the laser inside a c6 host from survival lasers, running off a 1.25 amp driver, should be around 1 watt since only using standard 3 element lense, its an a140 diode and I have a 2 watt m140 on the way
