Yes that's correct the beam will not expand as fast as it would without it, and no you do need the lens and the expander.

I don't know if you said anywhere what country your in, you should add your location to your profile, more people will answer questions especially if you ask where you should buy something.

If your in the US please be careful how you use your laser outside, I don't know if your laser is powerful enough but if you put a spot on the clouds or on a hill or mountain near by you may draw attention to yourself, it is also illegal if you are within 10 miles of an airport, also illegal to even shine it in the flight path of a plane, it doesn't have to be shined at a plane to be illegal so please be careful of that.

It is also illegal in any Sensitive Flight
Zone at any elevation between X and Y. You
need to consult the maps published showing
the FAA laser related flight zones. April

been, and now they have even pulled the
document pertaining to these laws. This is
effectively an outdoor laser ban. Do we

I live In the us but not close to an airport or anything and i live out in the country i only shine it in the sky if i look around and dont see any planes and just today a man was arrested for shining a laser at a plane and he is doing 25 years and a 100,000 dollar fine
