Nice:)

I'm rather curious whether this is just an under driven a140, or if it's something else entirely.

It's the "cute" host, so the top just unscrews... no need to do more than that.

Also you'll see right away whether you're getting a nice round dot (single mode diode and not the a140) or the rectangle with rounded edges that the a140's produce.

I guess I will see what it takes to get apart with out killing it.

I've been curious about what diode is in this setup as well.

There is no doubt that this laser is bulit in ture single mode 445nm laser diode. Under driven a140 to obtain 100mW will turn the dot become even unacceptable line shaped.

I guess I will have to crack it open and see...

Highly not recommended. Any disassembing and modding will imediately void the warranty.
