I read in another thread that sometimes, even brand new M-140 diodes can give up the ghost, shortly after they are put to use over 700mA.

Is it unwise to run new diodes, for a while, on the bench to see if they're going to die young? How long is a reasonable burn-in time? 30 minutes, presuming they are properly heat-sinked?

You know pretty sure which one are good and less good right after putting it on a bench.
The dudes will give lower output immediately. No need for 30 minutes on a bench.
That is what my experiences are.

This is making me nervous, I have a 1,35A driver (mohgasm) and I have a M-140 on it's way... I'm only going to use it with 30 second duty cycles:thinking:

you'll be okay. Just get a procedure in mind, take your time and follow your procedure. the duty cycle will be determined by the heat sink you use. looks like you chose a nice conservative driver setting too.

So basically I spin the two ends of the red wire together (twist) and add solder to secure the connection, then heatshrink it. Same goes with the black wires. Right?
