Default LPF DISCOUNT-Certified goggles for 445 nm

Hey folks,

After all this hype about these new 445 nm 1 W lasers, we've been thinking that it's probably good for everybody to have a set of ANSI/CE certified laser safety goggles which cover this wavelength. Wicked is including goggles with their laser but they are not certified which means you really don't know how "safe" they are. Is the OD at 445 nm carefully tested? Is each set consistent? How long can they take a beam shot before failing? If the goggles do fail and it costs you an eye does the manufacturer have any liability insurance or are you hung out to dry? Etc...

In the interest of getting proper US-made ANSI/CE certified goggles into everyone's hands, we're offering a special LPF forum discount on our laser safety goggles.

Simply use discount code "lpfgogs" (no quotes) to save 16% on ANY laser safety goggles from Laserglow Technologies. Our standard blue/green goggles are $89, so with this discount they are only USD $74.76. On top of this, you can also select "Use your FedEx/Purolator account number" as the shipping method and enter the discount code again, as your account number, to get FREE STANDARD SHIPPING within North America. Normally the free shipping discount doesn't work with other discount codes but this is a workaround so you can get both for this deal. (Valid only with this discount code.)

For a 1 W 445 nm laser we recommend either the LSG-532-NF-7 (fitover) or LSG-532-NS-7 (sport) models. These are rated at OD 7 through blue and green so they will also work for lots of other lasers. However, the discount code is valid for all of our goggles so if you want something a little more exotic now is the time!

I'll keep this discount running for as long as I can, but the offer is subject to change or cancellation at any time.

For your convenience, links to the product pages have been provided below:

Fitover goggles: www.laserglow.com/AGF
Sport goggles: www.laserglow.com/AGS

Safety first!

Thanks for the awesome offer!

At OD7, is the laser visible through the goggles at all? I would guess it would be from the small amount of fluorescence (when pointed at something) that wouldn't be blocked because of the higher wavelength, but just making sure because I like to see what I'm working with.

In fact, there will be a heck of a lot of florescence (due to short wavelength and lots of power) so seeing what the beam is hitting should not be a problem through the OD 7 goggles. You won't see any blue light, though. We do offer goggles with OD 2 at this wavelength, which isn't strictly "safe" but it will take the retina-cooking 1000 mW down to a very reasonable 10 mW. At that level it would be easily visible but you won't risk eye damage just from looking at the beam spot on a wall. We left the discount code open for any set of goggles so that you can choose for yourself.

Justin, I know this is a bit off-topic, but does Laserglow have any plans to offer 445 nm lasers in the future?

A direct hit (assuming you have 1W) would be 10mW to your eyes with OD2. Yeah it is much better than taking a watt to your eyes but if you want to go by FDA standards you will need goggles than can drop a hit in the eye to 5mW or less, so basically OD2.3 or better. I would still feel safe with OD2, but that's just me.

Yeah, I got to get these, I feel safe with the ones that come free with the Arctic,
but I can get the fit overs and wear both at once, this should make it -15mw going into my eye thus making my vision better,
this is the theory behind laser eye surgery by the way.

Justin,

I got a question for you....

I am interested in your glasses with the discount.....

I am not sure if I want OD 7, because I still want to be able to see the dot for burning etc.... will OD 2 be safe enough ??

I think OD7 might be a bit to much... its useless if I cant see the laser....

OD2 sounds a little dangerous if you go over 200mW.

well mine right now should be around 300-350mW and I might get a WL Arctic when all the hype has dropped....

So maybe I should get OD7 then ??

Am I going to be able to see my 300mW 445nm with them though?
It would really be pointless if I couldn't see the dot to burn or anything...
