Default looking into the laserbtb 445 1.6 watt need advice.

I currently have a wicked krypton 500 mw green for 2 years now. I understand the danger of lasers and how they are useless for pretty much anything but I still find them fascinating. I am looking to purchase the 1600mw 445 from laserbtb but am a bit apprehensive about the danger of blue lasers. I am 43 and have been into lasers since I was 16 and know quiet a bit about them and the dangers/dos and donts. I am wondering if the laser shades that came with the Krypton will be sufficient for using the 445nm. Im careful where I point the laser and worst case i may shine it on a wall 20 feet away. Any thoughts on if this is something I will enjoy or maybe just leave it alone? I live in SF and occasional if there are no planes around I might shine it in the fog for a few seconds. Also may burn some leather and pop gallons with googles on inside. Thats pretty much it.

Alos is the beam round or rectangle. IE how is the beam quality compared to the Krypton?

Thanks

Since when are lasers useless? They are used in tons of applications!

And no, the "shades" sold with the Krypton WILL NOT give you any protection agaisnt 445nm light. If you want some certified 445nm safety goggles check these out:Eagle Pair® 190-540nm Standard Laser Safety Goggles

Yes, the wicked lasers shades will help protect against 445, but i am sure the WL safety [anything] is crap. I would go with eagle pair like greenlander linked to.

WL never gives an OD rating for their glasses, so yours are probably better than nothing, but without knowing the OD rating @445nm, we can't say. most glasses I've seen that block green also block blue, but not always

beam quality will probably be worse, a 1.6W 445 is certainly multi mode. a single mode 450 may ave better beam specs, but can only reach 200mW or so

OD1 would give 160mW from that laser. Would be dangerous.
OD2 would give 16mW from that laser. Dangerous? Not terribly so. Not terribly safe either however
OD3 gets you to 1.6mW. now you are safe.

Most cheap laser safety glasses probably give between OD2 and OD3. Professional ones are rated for as high as OD7 but do you really need that? In other words I think you should be fine but when you get the laser, pass your goggles through the beam without stopping and see if the beam passes through at all. If you can still see a dot on the wall, albeit dimmer, take caution. The less transmission the better. When you do that test, keep from looking at where the beam is hitting the goggles. It will be very bright and you don't want to potentially damage your eyes. In fact, having an obstacle between it and your face would be best.
