I can't believe people are staring at the dot of these laser with the naked eye!!!

I have 2 Arctics, and 3 pairs of the WickedLaser goggles. I also have a 405mn Purple 5mw laser pointer (which looks over spec, more like 20mw).

If I point the Arctic at a matte black surface and fire it on low power, thru the goggles the dot looks just as bright as the 5mw laser looks like on a flat WHITE surface with no protection.

I've fired it at the full power with the glasses on, and even then still too chicken to look at the dot directly. How the hell can people look at it with the naked eye without frying their maculas?

You can try, I shone my Spartan on a Wall 75 metres away about a few metres high up above from where I was standing, the dot looks intense, it really feels wierd to look at the dot even at 75m with my naked eye, i prefer not to look at it for long. Let us know how is it like with your yobresal.

You guys are largely over-reacting. Looking at the dot is not bad. It is like how people view pot as "The devils weed" because of the associated negativity towards it. You can look at your dot at 10 feet if you want. Yeah, they are serious, but they aren't nuclear lasers.

Cheers all.

Don't forget that the WL glasses are just a small step up from sunglasses, they are not even close to the rated OD level.

One of the differences between a class 3 and class 4 laser is whether diffuse reflections are hazardous. Up to about 500mW diffuse reflections can be considered "eyesafe", but this is not the case above 500mW. It's also hard to judge just how reflective your "diffuse" surface actually is.

One thing I've worried about with looking at the beam is if there is a bug that happens to fly into the beam reflecting the light at close range.

Toaster: again you open up your mouth and spout out your unverified claims and disinformation. Are you literally 14 years old? It's only a matter of time before you yourself become permanently injured due to your self-prescribed nonsense.

OMG,

I just looked at the dots in Toasters post and I gots blinded!

C'mon, you need to be safe here. Would you risk losing an eye for staring at ****... YES
Should you risk losing an eye for staring at your lasers... NO!

Use your OD4+ glasses or goggles when lasing

Use your OD 7+ when burning or cutting with a class IV

Don't forget about your household pets. Don't lase in a room that you have a cat, dog, ferret, goldfish, or trained dancing fleas (or any other animal or person). You can damage their eyes, especially since they love to stare at the dot!

You should ALWAYS wear safety glasses when looking at the dot indoors. Especially up close, regardless if it is a dark or light colored target. as powerful as these 445nm lasers are it just makes sense! Considering that we only have one pair of eyes, and I want to continue enjoying my lasers for the rest of my life ( Reaching middle age now! ). Dose it not make sense to want to protect them?

I canīt believe that there is a member here with such a post count who knows such little about how to handle a laser!
