Legal protection?

The only potential use for a laser I see(as a self defense weapon), is as a dazzler in a instance were it could buy you enough time to escape or runaway...such as in a case with road rage. Say some one is getting out of there car and coming after you with a batt(steel pole, knife, what ever), or even driving in there car with the intent to cause you harm with their car...you flash them and run away. This instance is useful because you could just run away and they can easily follow you with their car...blind them and run, and you may be able to make a clean excape. But keep in mind if the police ever find a reason to search your car....make sure it's a DYI model, as you don't want to have to explain that you imported a 1W laser, that's illegal. It's easier to say you built it from a blueRay drive and have the officer believe you...and that its just for star-gazing in the parks.

In the instance of your home. It's your house, you should not run, they should. Get a Shotgun with no butt, preferably pump for reliability (like a Mossberg 500). Shots in the house(or any self defense) will most likely be in range of a shot gun, and it gives way to not needed to be so accurate. If you damage your house with your own gun... insurance should cover it.

Home self defence in Denmark sounds pretty ridiculous compared to the crime rate.
A flashlight and a 1½hand sword could be pretty nasty inside an apartment.

There is no way any warning signs will protect you from legal problems.

Using lasers to blind enemies is illegal even in international military conventions, let alone for civilian use.

Perhaps you could get away with shining someone in the face with a laser as self defense in an acute situation, but if you set them up as a defense plan, you might as well set up target-tracking machine guns. At least those are legal in warfare

A sword would definitly would count as self defence. What kind of swords you got?

I'm with Toke on this one, swords beside the bed are a lot quieter than the "KACHUNK" of a slide slamming home.
Although that sound in itself is a pretty hefty deterrent
I know of a guy running a one man army against the local drug dealers, he uses a 445 but I don't know how effective it is.
A couple of minor blank spots in your vision probably doesn't matter as much as the strong chance of overdosing on your own merchandise.....
The "anti road rage" idea was pretty good Spartan X. I used a framing hammer on a guy's body panels that was trying to
A. Road race with me at 2 am when I was coming home from a friend's
B. Run me off the road when I didn't race him
Kinda stung using the hammer on that nice black dodge charger but at that point I was pretty pissed.
When I blocked the road with my pickup, it took the guy a few seconds to find reverse and get away from me ^_^

No, not from Texas, and I don't even own a gun. I'm just saying that if you're planning on carrying a weapon at all, especially for self-defense, it should be something that is going to "complete" the job, rather than a once-effective or exotic method of disabling an attacker. Such half-measures are liable to get you more hurt than if you just hand over the cash and let the police deal with the criminals for you.

Thats what i was always told. If someone breaks in, shoot them. If they don't die, shoot them again. If you let them live they'll probably sue you and take everything....so make sure they're dead before calling the police. That's what they get for breaking into a man's castle anyway.

One of the things they drilled into me when I did gun safety training is that there is no such thing as shooting to incapacitate. It does not matter if you aim for their foot, hand or head intent to kill is implied when you pull the trigger. So you might as well shoot to kill. Less likely to get sued or arrested.
It is just the cold hard truth.

Lasers are only really good for dazzling people who are coming at you from a distance outside. That way you can easily hit them in the face and then simply run away. They probably won't be able to identify you so the odds of them coming to sue you are pretty slim.

For home defense you're better off just killing the bastard with a real weapon. That's what he gets for trying to rob you.

I hate to admit it, but your right. If someone is breaking into your home, while you're home, then they want to do more than grab your jewelry and run. Would be kind of messed up if it was a kid though.

In 85 there was a guy that had 2 pet Badgers, they were ok when he was there. But if he wasn't they were pretty vicious, nobody broke into his house.

That, or they don't know you're there and might get spooked and want to prevent anyone from identifying them. Also, robbers usually come in pairs or groups, and (sadly) usually acquaintances. If you're making a stand, you don't want to be overpowered or have the inability to threaten with or cause lethal force--to all criminals involved.

Call me heartless, but I don't feel bad about them being "kids" either. Chances are, you're terminating an even longer pattern of future dysfunction compared to an adult--something "rehabilitation" in prison is likely not to improve. They may even get lame punishments like being released to their parents, and come back for some retaliation. Literally nip it in the bud.

Nice! Forgot about that thread.

My exbrother inlaw bought 3 swords at an estate sale, got all 3 for $200. One of them was a samurai sword. The handle looked dirty and old, so he took it in to see if he could get it rewrapped. Come to find out that the sword was over 300 years old and the guy that he took it to offered him $3800 for it. Joe kept the sword and has a very nice display for it.

I never get that lucky to get something like that!
