I'd advise against that since you aren't supposed to be buying/selling these lasers.

To be honest I'm not sure about the exact legalities...

Importing over 5mW is illegal. Selling over 5mW is also illegal.

Aside from confiscation I don't think buyers have been targeted at all though.

In fact this could be the perfect reason to give cops, to get their assistance.

Well you could just say you had no idea as it was illegal. When's you last time you heard of someone getting arrested for just having a laser? I don't recall one unless they hit a plane.

is it just me or do these newbie posts about daoo pop up more and more everyday?

if those people bought the "laser" on hackforums then why do they all of the sudden come here with question like these..

Or is it just daoo himself under different names trying to lure newbies to his sale posts on hackforums..

i find it all pretty hard to believe

i might be paranoid again but still:thinking:

If its genuinely producing 2,201mW then you should take lots of pretty pictures, you will be able to look at them in about 3 minutes and reminisce about how sweet that beam looked before the diode went nova. :)

:crackup::crackup::crackup: LMFAO!!!

You know what's funny, daoo bought that laser from Yobresal under another fake account.

The only thing he contributed to making it was a $200 markup.

I cant believe this guy is still getting away with this crap. There is no other person with a worse reputation in the laser world as far as I know.

the moment someone tries to sell you a 2.2W 445nm before it is built, is the moment you know that they are full of shit.

I would like to see how he responds to my query.
Hack Forums

I also saw that he is telling people that it can pop a car tire. Tried that with my Frankenstein back in the day and after 3 minutes it did not even make a dent.:tsk:

EDIT

I just went back to edit my post to add something and the thread has been closed by a moderator.

I doubt that a laser can pop a tire unless it is watts and watts and watts plus many watts.

When I got my 1st hi-power laser, a 200mw green, I got curious about some little things that I noticed when burning electrical tape for the first time.

Then I expanded the experiment, burning black plastic and rubber objects of various thicknesses. And other things.

First, there is a tendancy for objects to form a layer of carbon on the surface... which seems to start PROTECTING the object.

I have a bookcase, a light tan / yellow / SLIGHTLY brownish color - IMITATION wood, kinda "plasticy"; for some reason it is unexpectedly sensitive to lasers. It is the same material all of the way through. I can burn little black holes in it (200mw 532nm, ~380mw 660nm), but NOT all of the way through... ONLY to a point... and then it stops smoking. It makes a little carbon-filled "pit" which doesn't burn anymore.

When materials melt, you get a tiny pool of carbonized "ooze", which flows (in a small way), and *conducts heat away from the target area*.

Rubber doesn't burn that well at all, past a certain point. I think it is that "ooze" effect.

Also, the "rubber" in tires is designed to take a higher amount of heat and abuse.

(And why is he SUGGESTING that a laser can be used to pop a tire in the first place? Hmmm?)

Not sure why, but it's a point of fascination to people. I've had a coworker and friends ask me "can you pop a tire with that?".

@DTR - Maybe they closed the thread to finally look into the issue, hopefully:undecided:

Edit: Can't bring up the post/thread...
