i'm back from a very long break, but I got a project in my lap

Hey guys, I'm back from my extended laser break, and I figured that I should come back right with a new build project.

Here's what I got: A DTR M140 diode with the 405 g2 lens and the associated driver. A project box From radio shack, and) some thermal compound.

What I'm planning on getting: a block of aluminum for the heat sink (fit inside the project box. Some old computer fans. Whatever batteries will run the diode (18440's or what not) yadda, yadda.

Let me knower what y'all think, and again I'm sorry for neglecting the forums! I'm back for now.

welcome back- mcrouse has the perfect HS for your project-it is a full 5oz. with set screw and allen wrench included. You can get one from Mike or also buy one from AixiZ at ebay. AixiZ has 20 in stock ATM.

These have 1/4 inch tapped holes in the bottom at 1 inch center to center.
That is the industry standard for Al plates made for lab use and projector bases.
Mike and his dad make theses by hand and they are damn near perfectly crafted.
You can also ask mrcouse to make any heatsink to your specs are any other Item you would like to have custom made. Turnaround is super fast and their pricing is attractive.

GOOD LUCK on your project and remember to use ESD precautions and short all those caps before soldering any diodes to the drivers.:tsk:

You may want to use a Lasorb to protect your investment- those can be purchased from Pangolin (Lasorb.com) or also from AixiZ at FeeBay. :yh:
