How much protection do the WL glasses provide?

I have been CAREFULLY experimenting with my Arctic. I have been using the WL glasses with a #5 welding lens over them for my close range burning tests. Outside doing some long range tests at 50 feet and greater I viewed carefully naked eyed and then went to just the glasses. But how much protection do they really provide? The #5 lens seems very good but I am new to this so a little advice on eye safety would be appreciated.

They provide insufficient protection for the Artic, they should be okay for indirect view.
Any direct hit and you will most likely get some eye damage.
