Maybe this will help. Here's a couple of pictures of one that's wired up.

The red lead goes to battery +
the blue lead to diode +

There must be something wrong. I did everything according to the scheme but I get a peak of 27 mW :thinking:

Where does the black wire go ? The wire attach to the red wire with ducktape.

Yes, it's connected to the diode according this scheme.

How did you measure 27mW ? You mean 27mA ?

Nope, I have directly measured the diode emission with a LPM.
