Question First Laserpointer M140

Hi, i'm new here an this is my first post in this forum
I'm 21 years old and live in Germany. I love to build special things, I dreamed a long time to build a high powered Laserpointer for my own.
Now I have the machines to do this.
I got all my knowhow from this forum and I hope someone could help me with my problem:

My friend and i crafted some really nice housings for our first laserpointers..
We wanted to put in a M140

Our driver is a 2000mA LED driver and we used four 3v Batteries, so we had a current of ~ 11,6V

Our heatsinks measure about 25mm total diameter

We drilled a seat with CNC and pressed the diode with thermal grease from a CPU in

Well I connected it with the Driver and the Diode ran about 4 seconds.. I think its broken now

Do you have some advices to us, what we are doing wrong ?

Are 11,6V too much current or what?

Or ist it the 2000 mA, I read about, that the M140 restist up to 2300 mA

Greetings from Germany

The M140 should really be limited to no more than 1.8A. You may be thinking about the 9mm 445's that can run 2.3A.

LED driver's may not be the best choice if you want a reliable machine as they are not designed with LD's in mind.

A proper laser driver would be a better choice. Does it need modulation or will just simple on/off operations work for you? An X-drive, blitzbuck or FMT iDRV3 will work great if you don't need modulation or you could build or buy a basic liner driver.

This is a good read if building is the way you would like to go as it has a basic bluprint.
Laser driver - It can be done

If you want a driver with more functionality like modulation maybe look at the Flexmod P3 or a badpip driver. Anyway good luck with your build hope this helps.

It just needs an On/off driver

We will try another m140 with an 1.8 A driver

Now the final question
Do you think, four 3v cr123a batteries are too much?
Unfortinately i have no datasheet for the m140.. i heard about, that the M140 resists up to 12,2 V
